window chrome trim

SUK strikes again!

There are so many differences between standards from country to country its impossible to compare.

Elegance in Norway has Bi xenon, led rear lights, cornering fog lights, heated front seats, heated washer nozzles, chrome window trim, 9 airbags as standard.

Oh dear. Does that mean you will have to pay for a black optic package like with Audi? The version I want isn't out yet, but it will lose its appeal to me at least if chrome is the default. Black l

  • Great news for you!!Mine has been cleared by the port, not entirely sure what this means!! Think it means it can now be shipped, dealer said it shouldn't be too long!! No idea where it is to be honest

Chrome is unknown in Ireland but Sunset Glass is now an option on the Hatch! Hope we get the chrome option back..

Edit: Just after looking at Skoda.ie - Chrome is no longer on the online configurator yet their latest Pricelist (dated 21st of May) lists the Chrome Package as an option for the Ambition and Elegance models. Typical. I've banged off an email to see if they can confirm whether it's an option or not!

I am sure you also pay with a higher list price! Our main issue is the restriction on choice, by limiting the number of options via SUK, VW Group are maintaining the perceived VW and Audi premium brands whereas on the continent, there does not seem to be as much badge snobbery, hence Skoda seem to compete on a more level playing field outside of the UK!?

All cars i Norway are way more expensive than in the UK. As to the VW and Audi, its the same here, VW group trying to keep skoda of the premium marked.

Btw. The Octavia I have ordered costs about £48.000 here in Norway. Don`t even ask what a "premium" car costs here.. :p

I'm sure if Skoda could get away with charging £48k for an Octavia they would be only too delighted to chuck in a strip of tinsely chrome trim! :p

Great minds think alike!

Thank you all!

skoda stop this packet for all country, they have problem with manufacturer (quality is poor)

I wonder if it is only covered by the 3yr warranty or the 12 yr bodywork cover?

Id suggest the three year warranty as its a trim piece, not a sprayed body panel perhaps?

Yeah, that was my thoughts too. Not had any probs with the chrome on the Superb, so would be surprised if any different. Only issue I had was the trim on the drivers door at the top got snagged on my coat once and it bent out of shape, user error!

I am inclined to believe this, since "KoNG_Czech" is in fact living in Czech Republic, and most of the info they share there, on the domnestic forums, never reaches us.

Just a short off-topic, sorry  ...... when the web site "autoforum.cz" tested the first hatches, they complained about the torsion beam on the diesels, and said it was significantly worse

than multilink on 1.8 tsi, and then, when they got to test 1.4 tsi estate, they said its torsoin beam was tuned much better than the first cars recieved for testing.

They believed that its beacuse the estates were "production year 2014" models, and they predicted that all of the octavia models produced from week 23 onwards, will have this diferently

tuned suspension, as they will all be "year 2014 models".

The jurnalist believed that the producer has paid attention to all the criticisam by the local media regarding this issue.

I personaly can not believe that they didnt test enough pre-production, but this guy thinks so.

I know the answer is here somewhere, but when is week 23? My 2.0CR Elegance was ordered in March / April for September delivery (UK) so not sure when it will be built. Its through a lease company so not sure how I can find out any more information - the supplying dealer doesn't even know its been ordered as its done through my company lease car dept.

Cheers

I think it's next week from what my dealer told me last week. Mine is supposed to built then too.

It is from 3rd till 9th of june.

Got a reply back from Skoda Ireland. The Chrome Trim is still available but it's on back order so we'll be waiting quite some time to get it. Adds to the story from Kong Czech - maybe it's been pulled due to quality issues.

Another update - in fairness to Skoda this mail came out of the blue as a follow up to the original - the chrome is more than likely going to be discontinued as of right now it's only available in 5 countries worldwide.

Interesting! I wonder if they will re-introduce? Don't understand why they changed suppliers, apart from cost cutting, as Superb trim is still like new after 4 yrs and 88k

On closer inspection, the Octy III chrome does have the rubber backing, but it is a thinner backing section abutting the b-pillar, can't really see much difference between quality with both cars side by side, so don't think I will have any water ingress issues from what I can see, but will keep an eye on it :whew:

I might be wrong, but I could have sworn that this option was removed from the configurator, but when I've looked today, there it is.

Am I wrong, was it never removed, or have the quality / supply issues been miraculously ironed out ?

I'm intrigued to know because I have it specced on my order (personally think it sets off the Corrida Red a treat) and if I'm not spending my £150 there I might have to look at another option instead !

I tried to include it on my new order and it wouldn't accept it. Was told Skoda not doing it anymore !

Just to make the confusion a little bigger, I talked to my sales rep. today and he swore that my Estate scheduled for delivery in late sept. would come with chrome lists. Furthermore, he had not heard of any problems with the chrome, and the estates they received this week all had chrome lists.

Now I do live in Norway, so that could be a factor.

Same answer I got from the skoda Norway site on facebook.

But this may just apply to Norway.

Quote from Skoda Norway facebook:

I can disprove that delivery issues apply to Norway as this is standard for Ambition and Elegance.

Skoda UK telephoned me today. They were adamant that the Chrome Surrounds were no longer available, and that chrome would not appear as an option in the new brochure. No reason or explanation. Of course, it could be that the chrome has become a standard item. But this I doubt.
