2005 octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi guys

New here and just looking for some help !

My octavia has just started a problem, when backing out of my sisters driveway which is up hill the car started to jerk and then engine stop ! It re started straight away but engine management light is on but not staying on ! Just comes on then goes out but after a few seconds comes back on !!

Managed to get home but engine running ruff and when over 30mph it gets worse and fills like whole cars jerking and just running bad , once at home and out of the car I noticed that there was a bad smell from N/S back wheel ! Like a burning smell but all looks ok !

I'm thinking it could be cat , or turbo but hoping its neither !!! Has any one had this problem or can advise me

Many thanks

Where are you based? Someone may be local with VCDS...

Could be many things causing the EML to come on so diagnostic with VCDS is needed, but one of the most common failures on the VAG 1.8t is the MAF sensor dying.

Unplug the MAF & if the car runs better the MAF is goosed.

Burning smell could possibly binding rear caliper? Is it from the brake area?

Where you based bud? I've got VCDS and can scan it for you if you like?

Broken ABS ring on the hub maybe or ABS sensor ?

I posted a reply in the mk2 section for you,it could be a coil pack that has failed,it happened on my mk1 vrs,the management light flashed on & off & i had no power & a burning(rotten egg) smell from the exhust & car was running like a pig......new coils packs fixed it.

It's worth checking with your local Skoda dealer to see if the coil pack recall applies to your car. If it does they'll replace them free of charge.

Hi guys just scanned my car and it appears to have picked up two codes first one 16684 which is random misfire and second one 16685 cylinder 1 Misfire ,

Now can I change just one or am I better to replace all four ??

Check the S-shaped breather pipe under the inlet manifold ,that can cause misfires before you spend a load of money on coilpacks.

Phone Skoda as your coil packs are probably covered by the VAG recall.

The smell is normal, I've heard it a few times on here and my own does it now and then. I think it's the rear exhaust hanger getting a little hot !!
