Oil in cylinder No3? further VRs woes!

Featured Replies

Evening all,

This is my second post as the first was regarding a broken condenser for the aircon (if you want to know about that feel free to find my other post), however this one is far more serious!

I was driving along quite happily last weekend when suddenly the car started shuddering. The engine warning light was flashing and the EPC came on to put the car into safe mode.

I was not best impressed as I've only had my VRS for 5 months!

The car has been with my local dealer now for a few days ( I could have taken it back to where I bought it but iv had issues with them, aka previous post) and not heard anything more about it.

They told me a few hours after I dropped it into them that cylinder 3 was full of oil and the spark plug was covered in oil too. So there was a reason it was running like a tractor! They have said it will be either to replace the faulty part which has caused the oil leak or a complete new engine. I will hopefully be hearing from them tomorrow.

Either way I'm not fussed but I was just wondering if anyone else has had something similar?

Oil into just one cylinder sounds pretty serious (piston ring failure?), It's not a supercharger or turbo fault as those would put oil mist into all 4.

Not good, hope they sort it out for you with a minimum of fuss.

Had a phone call from Skoda today, and its not an engine problem apparently.

The techinician who told me the about the high amount of oil exagerated it a bit. They have checked all cylinders, compression test etc and found that all is well inside. Thats the good news...

However they cant find what is actually wrong. They think its an electrical issue somewhere, but its like findng a needle in a buch of needles! They are working their way through the various componants but its going to be a long investigation unless they get lucky.

More time without a car, its all getting a bit fustrating!

Seems to be very much like the same Coil Fault or Spark Plug fault that has been common enough on a good few other vRS.

Needles in Haystacks are what they are there to find, the job that they are trained & employed to carry out.

Once they get passed saying they have never seen the likes before and put their thinking caps on and talk it through with Skoda,

they should have the car running just fine.

Hopefully without too much trial and error.

Electrical issues really is rather a poor excuse to use, no doubt the Technician will have his diagnostic tool to check things

and its not going to be wiggle some wires and connectors about.

Have you got a Courtesy car from them until they can find the fault and do a proper repair?

I think George is right. Sounds like the coil/spark plug issue. It misfires and the cylinder wets up. This always allows some oil to be present in the cylinder, along with petrol. Don't worry. They'll fix it.

Thanks guys for the info. I just phoned them to find out the situation and they still havent found the problem.

I would have hoped they have checked the main issues as you suggested but who knows...

As for a courtesy car, they only have one for the weekend and I would have to give it back on monday. Not much use to me as I need a car for the week to get to work.

I will have to get insured on my parents car being they wont be using it which is lucky.

You could just contact Skoda UK Customer Services today.

Known faults with the vRS. if the Dealership not capable of Diagnosing and carrying out the Repair,

& Skoda are footing the bill,

so if the Dealership doing the work has no Courtesy car available just get Skoda UK to approve a Hire car.

They need to get your car repaired and not at any expense to you.

They will have Demonstrators they can lend you.

Your car is sounding like one ripe for Rejecting as not fit for purpose.

5 months old and AC & now Engine, and the Dealership Technicians have no idea of the problem.

Car is wrong or the Workshop is rubbish.

EDIT.

I see your first post and it being a used car. You being 3rd owner & it is an Ex Demonstrator.

& a 'Skoda Approved Used Car'. So Warranty in place.

Defo chase the dealer for a car as you shouldn't be put out by length of time with repairs.

We had an automatic ford focus with all the toys for over a week while our engine was getting replaced and skoda uk footed the bill.
