Are the 2.0l diesel engine problems fixed?

Featured Replies

hi,

I was looking these days for used Skoda Superb cars with initial registration after 2009 and I see most of the diesel ones are using a 2.0l engine. Aren't these engines time ticking bombs? I made some research and it seems some of the problems are fixed by the CR version...are such CR engines safe enough or each time I'll go on highway I have also to pray that the engine will not fail?

Can you indicate what engines (diesel and gasoline) are safe enough for Skoda Superb?

thank you

The problem is the 2.0 PD engine in the mk1 superb, not the mk2.

Now on 3rd Superb with 2.0L 170hp CR TDi engine never had any problems or heard of any.

Yeah as above it was the Mk1 superb 2.0 PD that had oil pump failures. The 2.0PD on Mk2 and CR engine do not suffer with this. Enjoy.

I'm checking the used cars selling ads, I see many listed as DPF, can you tell if this is mk1 or mk2 ? (I don't know even what mk is so I assume mk1 stands for Superb I and mk2 stands for Superb II ?)

MK is Mark, so yes a MK1 would be the older Superb that looked like a stretched Passat and the Mk2 is the current car. Both have DPFs on some of their diesel engines.

The MK2 has a DPF on all its diesel engines, the MK1 only had a DPF on the 2.0 diesel engine. I ran a remapped MK2 2.0PD TDi DPF for 44K miles and no problems at all.

Can I assume that any Superb with first registration after 2009 is a mk2 and it's not having these engine problems?

Yes indeed, the MK2 was introduced in 2008 so 2009 on will all be MK2.
