oh ok then, i guess i still have to hold tight :(

They have to serve the NIP within 14 days (from midnight on the day of the offence)

By "served" they need to have posted it to the registered keeper. It does not have to arrive within 14 days but if you don't hear anything in the next few days it's likely that you went past an empty camera.

hmmm maybe, what happened to Mort? 6 weeks!!! ive read that if you dont recieve it by 1st or SD, then its void or something?? (maybe exagerating a bit, but I read something like that on the speed camera forum www.pepipoo.com) anyway I should have recieved it this morning if they did send it, else Royal Mail are being slow basts again

I got flashed a while back and nothing came of it. Camera only went off once - I think because I was only doing six mph over the limit and I slammed the brakes as soon as I saw it go off. I'm normally very careful with speed limits, but on this occasion I wasn't concentrating because the speed limit was so low that I had just zoned out and was cruising along. Ironic and scary.

14 days, that's all thev'e got. Anything after that then it's off to Mr recycling!

Is it 14 days or 14 working days?

Main points are -

a notice of intended prosecution, specifying the nature of the offence and the time and place where it is alleged to have been committed, must be served on the offender, or the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time of the offence, within 14 days of the offence.

If you have not been given the notice within 14 days (ignoring the day of the offence) then they cannot proceed against you unless an exception applies

Exceptions

A notice sent by post must be dispatched so that it would reach the driver within the 14 days within the ordinary course of the post. If this is the case then it will have been deemed to have been served even if it is delivered outside the 14 day period.

Failure to comply is no bar where the police could not with reasonable diligence have ascertained the name and address of the accused in time for service of the summons or notice within the 14 day period, or the accused contributed to such failure. [These are our highlights - might apply for example if you drive a hire car, company car or you were not the registered keeper]

I think the nipper's got off with it!

Some roadworks cameras belong to the contractors and are fakes. They work very well though!

hmm okay cheers guys lol, i hope your facts were correct VRStu, and yes. ive learnt my lesson, dont speed!!!! and dont blame the rents for it lol

ok did a bit of more research on googly and found this :

I have recently been flashed by a Gatso camera, what happens next? The Police have 14 days to send you a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). They also get an allowance of a couple of days for the post to deliver it. So if its more than 17days since you were flashed they are too late to prosecute you, unless you were driving a company car, hire car or someone elses car. In these circumstances they are allowed more time to track you down. See below for further details.

Which statement is true? VRStu's one or this?

This would be done in cases of GATSO speed detection or when a complaint is made by another motorist, for instance, of your manner of driving. This form must be issued within 14 days to the registered owner of the vehicle. It does not have to reach that person within 14 days and the recipient does not need to have been the driver at the time.

lol am i just worrying myself again?

Whatever the outcome, I would get yourself on a defensive driving course. I was like you when I first passed, i.e. not liking feeling pressured by tailgaters. I've now been driving for 10 years and they don't bother me now. I just leave more of a gap infront, and if it is on a single carriageway road, I make sure I'm doing the speed limit (where it is safe to do so, and not being a dawdling Sunday Rover driver!), and plonk the car smack in the middle of the lane. You will also learn where to position the car when the carriageway goes from wide to narrow to stop them blasting past and cutting you up at the last minute- doing that tells them that they're not getting past until it is safe to do so, and that you won't take any crap from them !

This comes with experience...

That's my Old Git's sermon over ;)

p.s. My Furby Vrs is great for blasting away from them if I have to, and it is safe and leagl to do so! ;)
