3 points on my licence already!

Featured Replies

hey people,

I passed about december, but have only been on the road about a month or so ago driving my fabia.

Ok, to the point, I was driving to Wales from Essex at around 12:30am last Friday and along the way there on the M4, there was roadworks, but no one was actually working. I was doing 70mph, but the speedlimit was 40mph. I was driving this speed throughout the roadworks and didnt see a camera, and as I drove along, I wasnt really looking out for them anymore and before I knew it, I saw two flashes  ba*t*rds!! :finger:

Any chance of there being no film in the lame camera? Also, it's 3 points off the licence and a

You'd better hope you don't get another 3 in the next 18 months then else it's a ban for you.

Sorry it's not what you want to hear but 70mph in a 40mph roadworks - you deserve it.

How close to 70 were you?

40 + 30 = 70, a +30 can be very bad. I guess you could argue for 50 normally in coned areas, but don't quote me on it ;)

I've noticed roadworks of late are 40 and not the good old fashioned 50.

Up to two weeks to send letter but that does not equal it landing on your doormat.

A friend of mine got caught speeding through roadworks.

I dont think the 3 points and

I know I know :P but I was driving slow speeds at the start of the road works and no one was around, so I thought "fk it" lets get out of these crappy road works."

70 on the spot or less.

A friend of mine got caught speeding through roadworks.

Something thats nice to know is that temporary speed limits are only enforceable on a motorway, so A roads are fine! Saying that though, dangerous driving is a much more serious offence ;)

I've never heard of temporary limits being treated differently to speeding in a regular 40 though. Could be an SP40, still 3 points and a

80 in a 40 would have been a ban wouldnt it? Double the limit.

It was an SP40 that my mate got in temp limits, same fine and points but insurance compaines treat it differently to an SP30.

I thought 30mph or more above the limit meant a ban has to be considered?

Let's hope the speedo does the usual of an over-read by 10% odd...

Okay, you guys are scaring me now

Post details on www.5ive-o.com for a more informed response. 70 in a 40 is bad news though - and getting someone else to take the points is also unwise - why should your Mum be penalised for something you did ?

Been there, done that. Done a silly speed, luckily the police let me off, but it has given me a big kick and now I drive very safely. I hope you change and do the same.

Was the camera front or back btw?

I assume you mean the cameras near the Bath junction? Yep, they're live.

Seeing as you are young and new(ish) I won't be too harsh but..... You were doing 30mph over the speed limit and although I may or may not do that sort of speed at some point in time, you have been caught (maybe). If so, take it like a man!

As for the well, I didn't want to drive from/to Wales, but my mum made me, Sorry, but that is just lame - you were driving the car, not your mum.

Just to remind you of one other thing - purgery is a custodial offence, so if your mum has agreed to take the rap, she will have to live with it, even if it means a 6 month ban (guess you won't get a chrissie present in that case :D )

Back, so its only got a shot of the fabias ass. Hopefully they wont be able to see the driver, it there were 2 people at the back also, so its pretty much covered up

They will still want to know who was driving and it's now against the law not to tell them (there used to be a loophole around this, but it was closed)

yeah, but the loophole is only closed if there is a rear and front camera. you cant really see through the back windscreen to the driver if the photo was taken from the back. (i think  )

I posted a duplicate thread on the 5ive-o forum, lets see what they come up with.

Nop, that means they can see your face so there is no loophole to close. The law is now if the owner of the car does not say who was driving (if it was not them) they will cop the fine and the points. It was after a spate of high profile people getting away with it (footballers mainly) that this was brought in.

That section of roadworks is well signed for camera's, camera's are on both cariageways, I use the road daily and stick religiously to 40mph - have seen it flash on occasions.

Did you know that from Bath towards London the M4 is scritctly camered by mobile camera vans in both directions also?, that can clock you before you have seen them and thats not in the roadworks!

You probably noticed this non roadwork section had camera signs also? it was well documented on TV and national press.

Did you notice at the M4 Severn Tolls there is a new 50mph limit? thats policed by a mobile unit also! Lots more in Wales!

Dont panic

 "dont panic" did you say? your making it worse!!! Throughout my journey on the M4 i have always been on the left or middle lane. Only to overtake slow moving cars or HGV's. I have always followed the person infront, but in the roadworks case. I dropped down to 40mph at the start and saw everyone zoom off happily at 70mph, so therefore I paced up to follow them, but I didn't see them slow down for the camera, n i just went past it going 70mph, :finger: woops.

No , temporary limits can be applied for on A roads as well as motorways.

Temporary limits, such as the ones that flash up in orange on side of dual carrigeways are advisable I believe? I always ignore them, but then thats how I was taught when driving.

ok, to make things ever more worse

If this is true, what should I do? take the points and re-take my test  :thumbdwn: or let my mum take it the points and the ban??

Okay, you guys are scaring me now

And quite rightly so.

At 30mph over the limit you are well outside the speed at which you will be offered a fixed penalty.

This *will* be a court hearing and will mean at least 4 points with 5 or 6 being a distinct possibility. If you get 6 points in the first two years of driving then a ban and compulsory re-test is what you are looking at. Magistrates will not be amused at nearly double the limit by a newly qualified driver.

Think *very* carefully about getting your mum to take the punishment as perjury and perverting the course of justice are much more serious offences than speeding. Things like this have a habit of getting found out.

Also I can't believe anyone would seriously consider dropping their mum in it for something they were daft enough to do themselves.
