B pillar gap- common problem

Featured Replies

The gap is the thickness of the key- probably about 3mm.

Which is 2.5mm too much IMHO

OK cheers, will keep an eye on mine, and report back if I have any concerns, would be good to find out if there is supposed to be any tolerance, hopefully any water ingress just drains out through the bottom of the doors?

Yes, it would drain out the bottom of the door but water will have to go past the door lock electrics first which are directly below that point. It certainly is a problem that needs fixing

Had a closer look at the Superb today, sitting feeling sorry for itself waiting on the drive for the lease company to collect, and there is definitely a tighter seal there, the chrome seems to sit on a rubberised back-piece which pushes tight against the b pillar, the new Octy does seem to have much thinner, more flexible mouldings, so suspect they have been looking to value engineer a few CZK's off the build cost, suspect this may be a bad move and spark off a few warranty claims! Fingers crossed, they find a quick fix, like they did with the leaky fogs on the early Superbs.

Very sorry to read about your trouble, but grateful to you carrock for putting our attention on this!

I can't tell if this is an issue in Sweden, but can't see why not either...

I will definitely keep an eye on it when eventually picking up my new car!

Had a look at the cars at my dealer, and they all look like this.. :)

Something must be seriously wrong with your chrome..

That's what mine looks like too, so must be a problem with the cars not fitted with chrome, don't think Carrock has the chrome?

No, no chrome trim on mine

Perhaps this is why Skoda have pulled the chrome option?

Sorry misread the above as problem on chrome trimmed cars, not without my mistake

Some may have noticed my post which contained a pic of a large gap on my front n/s b pillar

On closer inspection, the rear o/s pillar is similar.

Local dealer has been contacted and advises as follows:-

" Mr ( carrock) ,

( name deleted ) has sent your email onto myself in regards to the rear door moldings.

Because this is new model all concerns must be sent via DISS to Skoda.

I will be sending this along with you photo’s at some point to day.

I must though make you aware that I have inspected 4 vehicles on site & all are similar to yours. This information will also go down to Skoda with attached photo’s to see if any work can be carried out."

Interested to know whether anyone else has the same problem.....

Carrok do you allow me to post this picture with the explanations in a romanian forum? I will also send you the link to see what I did if you agree

latest update from dealer:-

Dear Mr ( Carrock)

Can you please send me some more photo’s of all mouldings that are starting to curl away & list which are causing concern

From them I can order up replacements.

Once in stock we will arrange to have the new moulding fitted.

Regards

( dealer )

Interesting. I am really eager to find out their solution for this defect and how will they repay your lost time.

Had a pre-delivery "preview" of my new Octavia Estate yesterday (standard SE trim without chrome), the problem still seems to persist. Also noticed similar problem with C pillar too. My wife has a 9 year old Kia Picanto and the seals are still perfect!  I have forwarded this link to the dealer who wasn't aware of the common problem until it was pointed out to him. Nice chap, hopefully he will sort it out " in due course".

In the meantime, has there been any development from your dealer Carrock? Like Harkonnen, I would welcome any information/solution that will sort it once and for all.

Many thanks.

I just nipped into Sparshatts in Fareham and looked at their showroom model. All gaps are perfect and there's no chrome round the window.

Vic (my salesman) also told me build week 2 for mine.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Then he said it will jump forward to this year. Phew.

Mine has smallish gaps on the trim, as does one of the demonstrators at the dealer in Northampton.  Hmmm...  These things do tend to take the shine off the ownership experience!

First thing I checked when took delivery of my elegance hatch, phew thankfully lovely fit ! Strange it seems to affect certain cars.

Mines fine and I expect it's just the way they've been (incorrectly) assembled at the factory.

From the pictures, the horizontal strip looks fine to me. It looks more like the door has been cast incorrectly or the vertical molding is too tight to the body. VW quality my ass.

That's my thoughts too and suspect it's gloss black trim that's not fitted correctly. Oh and doors are pressed not cast.

I think that a whole new door(s) may be in order. The seals actually look okay but the gap is just too big. Maybe the door panels were pressed (thanks for the correction Neily03) and seam welded incorrectly. Alternatively it may just be the window seal that has lifted at the bottom corner, causing the horizonal seal not to bite inwards.

U wouldn't see this on vw or Audi. Just wouldn't be acceptable.

Rubbish!

Haha, if you think that's bad, I have some horror stories for you and plenty of... Including some quite serious brands. :)

Mass produced cars are always going to have some that are crap no matter who the manufacturers. The speed these things fly off the line its no surprise some get missed although the inspection process you see on the videos seems to not be as thorough as it could be.
