Which tyres for VRS?

Featured Replies

Looking for either 2 or 4 225/45/17 or 205/50/17 tyres for my VRS.

It's currently got Bridgestone 050A all round, but when I checked them yesterday, there's a hairline crack in the rubber all the way round one of the grooves on every tyre, so pending an inspection at a local tyre dealer tomorrow, I think I'm going to need at least 2 but probably 4 new tyres! :wonder:

Can anyone recommend a decent all rounder that doesn't cost the earth? If I'm replacing 2, I'll get a pair of 225/45/17, but if I need to replace all 4, I might just go back to the standard 205/50/17 and regain a little comfort and MPG. Cheers.

  • considering all 4 tyres give you a contact patch around t he size of an A4 piece of paper I'm happy not to take the risk on cheap rubber also you are happy to save £60 on tyres when your car must be

Landsail tyres. Oh dear. I am not a 'tyre snob'. A good tyre is vital to a cars overall performance. Hence why with 200bhp+ through the front tyres I wont buy anything other than the best. Even t

Sounds like old tyres there if rubber is cracking.

Do some searching mate.

Depends on your driving, what you want from the tyre.

I go for budgets mostly on the fabia vrs as its only a motorway to and from work car.

Ive had all types of tyres and for my driving never really needed anything better even tho I liled better tyres.

I gone for hankook v12 this time as price was good and tthey pritty grippy.

Wont touch nankang againn wearing well and good grip wise but noise is bad.

Search is your fried tho

Thanks for the reply. I've done a search, but there was nothing recent, although I appreciate the tyre market doesn't evolve that rapidly!

My driving's mostly stop/start town stuff with the odd weekend blast into the countryside to go mountain biking, nothing too spirited as I often have my 5 year old boy in with me, so safety/braking/wet control's more important than out and out cornering performance.

I highly rate falken 452's in 205 size. Kuhmo in 225 size don't last long at all, under 6 months in my case. They're the only 2 I've had experience with.

Used both Hankook V12 & Falken 452

Found them quite similar, very competent tyres

would buy either again

Eagle F1 Assymetric 2.

Vredenstein Ultrac sessantas would be and are my choice

I have Falken 912's and cant fault them for a budget to mid range tyre. Though if you are modded or push hard I would possibly go for something stickier.

How much do you want to pay lol

The Bridgestone are mega money. You could 2 sets of 452's too 1 of the Bridgestone.

I'm with raf on the kuhmos

Arnt they phasing the 452 out ?

Swapping to a 453 arnt they ?

I still like my rainsport 2s :)

Always a hard one mate

You will always someone who likes a certain tyre..... Then someone who doesnt

Someone whos always ran them and someone who will never again

Stick or slide

Tyre opinions are a freaking nightmare

Whatever you choose just get a feel for them and dont just hulk it sideways and asume anyones word is in stone

Or you may be in stone :(

Goodluck mate

I've got Kuhmo KU39's on mine in 225/45/17. Impressed so far.

Ive got Falken FK453's on mine, really cant complain, grippy in dry, good in the wet and for the price, not bad at all.

(i work for an online tyre supplier so had plenty options to choose from but went for the Falkens due to past experience and price)

Any chance of getting them to give a Briskoda discount? lol

Been to the tyre spot today, and they say the tyres are absolutely fine, so I don't need any just yet, I'm sure they'd have tried to sell me some if there was anything wrong, lol!

The tread is down to about 3mm on the fronts, so I'll be needing some fairly soon, at least I've got an idea what to go for now, cheers! :)

Another vote here for the falkens had them on 2 years so far and still got 4mm tread on all round. I made the mistake of fitting some cheap ass Sunews once and they failed MOT after 6 months for cracks on the inside wall. Wont make that mistake again will use Falkens infuture. If money no problem i would go with Mitchelin Pilot Exaltos though had these on my cliosports and i think some mystical elves coat them with a sticky substance akin to 3M adhesive or NoNAILS as they simply wont lose adhesion they are mind boggling.

Broken record for me here again but Continental Sport Contact 3's! I run 225/45/17s all round and the grip is absolutely fantastic.

They don't fit them standard to most VAG cars for no reason...

Got maxxis victra maz1 on the back and for under £80 a tyre fitted theyre good but im adverse to v groove tyres because of snpw ice performance being pants so went for kumho kh31 ecstas on the front and very impressed. Ive been s fan of kumhos ecsta tyre for a ehile now as ive not come accross anything else which is a good value for money pn our usually not very hot roads.

I got 4 x maz1's for £280 fitted last month.

Very good for the money.

have had maxxis maz1's and now on uniroyal rainsport 2's and the maxxis for the money our very good but the rainsport's just give me that bit more confidence

I've just had 4 maxxis pro r1s and for 74 quid a tyre I'd say there one of the best mid range tyres out there I've had nankang ns2s before and I'd say that the maxxis are already showing signs of being better for an all rounder wet/dry they're not even scrubbed in properly yet I've done 80 miles so far not been pushing them hard on corners but the car feels more stable and the road noise is next to none very impressed :)

Regards, Rob:)

You spent all this on your car and fitted budget tyres? Doesnt make sense IMO.
