tdi fuel tank sender

Featured Replies

hi all,

i replaced the fuel tank sender in my 2003 ovtavia tdi110.

a few miles down the road, it coughs and splutters and runs out of fuel.. takes ages to restart- almost burned my starter out :(

anyway- it looks to me as tho its sucking in air from the connectors on top of the sender- i marked the pipes so the blue one has gone back in the right place (return)

from what i can see in the connectors- there is no seal? im debating on:

a) use a bit of grease/vaseline/etc to reseal them?..

B) drill a hole in sender, drop a length of fuel hose to bottom of tank (with a strainer on it) cut off stupid connector and jubilee clip?

c)limit my journeys to 3 miles.. lol- i cant use this option.. ;)

any thoughts? as this is driving me mad :( :(

Sounds more like your fuel pump isn't working rather than a sender issue? Or are the sender and lift pump all part of one assembly? I have never have cause to do any work on mine.

Sadly the Octy isn't self-priming so when it does run dry you have to crank it over rather a lot - do it it some bursts to keep your starter motor happy!

nah- it was running fine up until i changed it- its just the sender= no pump. the fuel gauge was misreading, so decided to 'have a look'- think crap got loose and blocked the stupid little ball valve in the feed pipe- now carried out the 'drill it out' mod- resealed the unions and it works fine.. :)

Drilling the sender = Easy ;)
