Hi SNH,

I am just wondering what you have planned with your turbo/supercharge mods on your Golf?

I have a MK iv V6 4Motion, I have spent a lot of time looking at complete turbo kits for it from PAG in the USA, they offer a package that can include software and fuelling mods so as to get the best from your V6.

Also, are you going with the double head gasket and spacer option, or will you be changing rods, pistons etc to reduce the compression?

I will keep you posted on what I decide to do and I will watch this thread to see what you decide to do.

It's home, was a blast on the motorway. The noises it makes are unreal ;)

Alright James,

The guy i brought it from works at stealth racing who happen to specialise in turbocharging vr's using VF engineering stuff.

He told me to avoid the charger as they only see 260-280bhp whereas a stage 1 turbo kit will see 360bhp, the stock vr internals are good for 400bhp.

He was also saying the vr6 was never intended to be a petrol is was designed as a diesel so everything is over engineered hence why it can handle so much power.

The kits not cheap tho at £5000.

It will be a while before i decide what to do as I want to change a few things first and generally tidy it up for now.

Get a thread put up on yours but I'd be interested in what route decide to go :)

Hi Si, my Fo Mo is stock, as it left the factory and is needing a bit of TLC, unlike your shiny beast. I have a steering rack to do on it and then I think I am going to run the rest of the year as is to see how I get on with it, after being at Bedford today and seeing how much time was gained after BossFox removed the rear seats from his Yeti I know the first job is going to be a harsh weight loss programme and then go again to the track.

I have a quote of £300 to insure and £245 to tax so I will have it road legal for now too.

Then the big question is what turbo and what budget? I like the idea of a kit and just bolt it on but £5K is just a starting figure for this and I think I am going to be more frugal with my mods, I also want to know I am getting the maximum out of the car as is, more power in the mix would just make it worse if I am not getting the most from the car stock. Eventually this will be a track only car, driven to and from the track or trailered I am not sure yet.

I will keep you posted on what I am up to with it. Here it is feeling sorry for itself with flat tyres lol.

Looks like a good base.

I've already brought a bucket seat for mine with the intention of a track day or 2 :)

The plan was to leave it in but the recaros are so comfy I think I'll just swap it at track days lol.

The guy who I brought it off had not long bk sold a 500bhp vr and wishes he never had. Like you ill be running this as is for a while to see how it fares.

Looks a tidy project matey. Love the sound of the vr6. Heres some pics of my mates turbo'd 24v converted vr6 :)

That's f****** nice!

Got specs?

Tidy looking Golf, I think my Golf will look fairly standard, I am not a big car polishing fan, or fancy paint for that matter, the idea of the cheap MK iv Fo Mo is exactly that, cheap, then tweak the bits to make it go and stop, maybe some handling too and if I plant it in a wall, just get another cheap V6 Golf and transplant all the hard work over to it.

Gave it a lick of polish today and it doesn't scrub up to bad :)

Si, I have a scorpion exhaust here off a MK iii, I am hoping it will fit the MK iv, if it does are you interested?

  • Author

I could be, is it off a vr6? Mines a standard system with magnex back box and its the most shocking fit I've ever encountered.

it is off a MK iii 2.0 16v GTI, it is CAT back, so consists of two boxes with a twin upswept tail pipe, I will try it on the Fo Mo and if it fits keep it but if it doesn't I will let you know.

Got rid of the bucket seat as I can't bring myself to take the recaros out.

Still a hoot to drive ;)

9x16's on!

Still needs lowering due to coilovers seized, they've been cleaned and oiled so hopefully they'll wind down once bathed a bit.

I am not sure about that stretch tyre look, the other wheels were better. just my opinion.

  • Author

They were ok and got decent money for them but you can't run a mk3 without dish lol. They'll be being painted a funky colour soon :)

And will also be running more stretch for better clearance when its dropped ;)

Looks really nice, nearly bought one myself but due to commuting purposes i'd have become bankrupt lol

Tbh it's not that bad especially once you've got past the crazy induction noise period lol

On steady motorway journeys is pretty good

Lol, I do 100 miles a day. That induction noise would be far too tempting on such a boring journey.

Day

100 miles per day at 25mpg if your lucky, a lot of money that.

I agree ;)

Brought a nice little omp steering wheel so I'll source a boss and get that fitted asap. Also found that the 205/45's keep having disagreement's with my arches so some 195/45's are being sourced and I've borrowed an arch roller to sort them out.

Omp goodness :)

This is looking very tidy! Can you post up a vid of the noise? Always loved the VR6, especially with a nice induction kit on there. Good call. :)

Is it quick? Always thought these craved more power from the output.

  • Author

Its not bad dude, not the quickest thing out there but the noise is epic :)

Stage 1 turbo kit will see me 360bhp ;)
