Fabia VRS - the new Saxo?

Featured Replies

Its been suggested by some that the Fabia VRs is quickly becoming the boy racers car of choice, replacing the Saxo VTR/VTS. Apparently depreciation is expected to rapidly increase on the little VRs too - As a non Fabia driver I've always thought of Skodas being "away" from the boy racer scene, perhaps I'm wrong.

Discuss.

I thought the C2 was the new Saxo? :D

I doubt a diesel Skoda will become the new Saxo. And group 9 insurance will definitely keep it out of the 'newbie' boy-racer scene, unless you work your way up to it. Most VTR/VTS owners started on a lower spec'd Saxo.

I think they'll stick to the saxo(c2)/fiesta/corsa type cars. And definitely stick to Petrol engines.

I agree, it's amazing how many toy racers I see driving them now including myself, I bought mine because I thought it'd be funny to see the reaction on other drivers face when a Skoda flew by them, unfortunately it seems toy racers are also following my lead.

Where did you hear about the depreciation thing?

I read it on the web earlier, I'll trawl my history to find it ;)

something along the lines of "basic economies" and "The more people buying them, the more saturated the 2nd hand market it" blah blah blah.....

Goochie, I do fear it may go that way.

Kim (SWSBO) said the other day she saw a **** in one, much to my horror, she has also see a few boy racers in them, all of which are up north (crewe way).

Personally I bought it because I wanted a reliable quick diesel that looked good. Giving the extra money I may have gone for the Octi.

i got the fabia purposly so i wouldnt "blend in" with the majority of fiesta/saxo/206..etc boy/girl racerpeeps to be differnt, seems like they have realised there a great car and alot safer!! than a pug or a citroen

It will never be the new saxo.

It's built well and doesnt feel like its going to fall apart any time soon.

just shows the quality of the fabia vRS

its used as a Emergency Services car, Learners Car, Ch av Car, Track Car, Rally car (I Think or is that the 2.0 (not the WRC of course))

Nah. The new fiesta ST with viper stripes will be the next max powercar.

leaving the fabia's to us! like it should be!

Nah. The new fiesta ST with viper stripes will be the next max powercar.

See loads of these about now.

I don't think it will be a boy racers car. it is quite quick - boy racer cars usually look fast, sound fast but are **** slow ???

I also think PCP's and 'bargin bacement' supermarkets is where most head for the usualy suspects. Fabia's are expensive compared to a 206 or ****roen C4 etc - so people will avoid them to an extent !

It's quicker than a saxo VTS when chipped so i can see why maybe they want to get a fabia vrs instead...

Its hardly surprising its getting picked up by boy racers - its cheap, looks good, and is quick, and the stigma of having a skoda is rapidly dying out. I've seen the odd ****ved up one, but still not too many at the moment - tbh i've seen more ****ved up Octy's around here by far.

I'm glad someone started this. Maybe not about the vRS being ch-av but about how popular they are now.

I left work this morning at 7.20am, driving home i saw:

1 non-vRS Fabia

6 vRS Fabia

1 non-vRS Octy

1 vRS Octy

0 Superb

I think either there is too much money around here and I'm missing out or the vRS is too popular.

I must be the only person on here that sill gets excited at seeing another fabia vRS. I may see only 1 a month (not including the one at malborough dealership on the way home.)

on the way to norfolk there was....withing the 418 mile treck!!! 1 fabia vrs, 2 fabia combi's one other fabia hatch......1 superb and one octy vrs....lots of octi taxis thoi recon its just devon where theres lots! they dont seem to like skoda's up in east anglia

i bought a furby vrs to get away from the ****vy saxo as i used to own one till i had old poeple shout at me lol!!!

hopefully skoda will dramtically put the price up or something to get rid of the bloody boy racers!!!!

Good idea, one way to get rid of the boy racers is an intelligent test. The higher you score, the better the car you can have.

Needless to say, I scored nil points.

vRS Furby is also popular with the older public - not sure why exactly you'd wanna buy a sporty looking car though, but then that tends to happen ;)

Loads of them about, but who carez :D - I'm keeping mine for now ;)

Been commuting to Clitheroe this week, 130 ish mile round trip and have only seen one other Fabia vRS (every morning btw so "Hi" ), near the entrance to the Bae factory.

In Warrington I reckon I have seen 2 Fab vRS's since I have owned mine, never looked for them before :) A Yellow one and a Red one, both not far from Burtonwood.

I tend to see a lot more Octywotsits, and RS Octy's seem to be really common round here, saw 3 of the buggers (All vRS) on Sankey way, one silver with private reg A19 *** I think.

I bought mine for the same reason as some others here, after a test drive. It is reasonably well built, fairly inconspicuous, well equiped, quick and economical. If anything I have reversed the trend from sporty more powerful cars, sideways to the fabia. If I want to go quick, I have got a VOR, Mille and Speed Triple to choose from :)

In the past I have had (through lovely tax free living in Germany, serving her maj) things ranging from Merc's, 2 Scoobs, a Carerra4 and my favourite (even over the porsche) V70R awd.

Fabia is still a hoot to drive, even though it seems to have an image problem in the eyes of some, who seem mainly seem to be driving the mighty all conquering Octavia vRS  .

Its been suggested by some that the Fabia VRs is quickly becoming the boy racers car of choice, replacing the Saxo VTR/VTS.

I do hope not, else mine is going to end up being the shortest time I've ever owned a car.

Now what could I replace it with....?

I've got a funny feeling that this is the case... Give it two or three years and the fabia vrs will fall into the price bracket that boy racers will like. And when you think that the skoda name should be even less of an issue in that time, it looks like ****dom beckons! :(

I brought a fabia for the very reason to be different from saxos etc. really hope this is not the case.

Im more worried that the Fabia is becoming the new Daewoo Matiz in Blackpool. I was chatting to a 68 yr old fabia vrs owner at the dealers the other day, and he loved his. It said it was just the right size for him and his wife. He also said that there was nothing better than giving all these young uns a spanking at the lights. His words, not mine. So in my area, the new saxo is still the old saxo and the c2 is mainly driven by girls who seem to like sticking pink graphics all over them. I have only seen a couple of other Fabia Vrs's, another silver one, middle aged lady driving, and a black one, thirty something bloke driving. I wont use the the C word, but Blackpool is sadly the birthplace of the tracky bottom/workboot/burberry wearing learner driver, and I'm not too worried about seeing Fabias with alloy tea tray/roof spoilers and such like just yet.

At least I hope not.
