Got it!

Wonder how many of us got the chrome while it was available?

Not sure but bet you can count on one hand as it was never offered in the brochure and only early birds who were on here would have had the option code to order via back door direct with dealer, I wonder if it will be standard on the L&K?

Could we be the only ones I wonder?

Happy birthday Occy! Had it a year today!

Your earlier pictures of the car looks great, cant wait to get my one in race blue. I've not actually seen an elegance with race blue in the flesh yet, just a single VRS so I knew I'd like it just not for real. Nice to have now seen one that looks like my car will do in a few short months.

Hey djd66 are those alaris rims? Are they 18s?

First service tomorrow, Friday 13th!!!!

Hi, no they're 17" Teron, standard on the Elegance UK spec

They look very similar to "Alaris" rims that are optional on Aus spec cars (from Ambition+ upwards).

Congrats on having your car a year! I still have ~4 months wait to get mine.......have been given a rough "july" build date, and its 8-12 weeks for us poor suckers in oz for delivery after build.....

You'll love it when you get it, what spec, colour you gone for?

See chrome trim back on car configerator £150

Our specs are a little different to yours (we seem to have all the safety stuff (airbags etc) included as std that UK is optional).

We ordered a Manual ambition+ wagon (estate/combi) with a 1.4TSI, in candy white, with a "tech pack" (Bi-xenons with afs, high beam assist, ACC, auto city stop, self parking, canton stereo, LED tail lights, KESSY) tow bar prep, colour maxidot, comfort bluetooth (no idea what it does, but it was $50 so why not), 18" Alaris rims (look pretty much identical to yours, just 18").

Here's the car card for it

http://skoda-car-configurator-sea.cloudapp.net/CarCard/55193277

Paid 30.5K AUD with all gov taxes, registration for a year etc - which is about 16.9K pounds (speccing a UK car to mine is 24K pounds!!!!!!!)

You guys are lucky that you can pick pretty much all options, along with any transmission with any engine. We are pretty much auto only, except in lower models, or vrs. Cant get a manual elegance :( However, it appears that we pay less for more spec than you (strange?) so I guess I cant complain.

Interesting you guys get the full leather in Elegance trim without paying extra and only in black, where we have to pay £800 to get full leather and we get to pick black or cream.

Speccing up what we can get for £23k on an Elegance hatch over here appears to cost $42k over there (before any discount). What sort of comparison of discounting can you get down under off of the list price?

As for comparison my Elegance RRP was £23,265 but I had offered of £21,700 on finance and £20,700 for cash.

Nice spec!

We generally get 5-8% off that listed "driveaway" price. For example, mine was listed at ~32.5K driveaway (~17.9K pounds), but my contract is for 30.5K (~16.9K pounds). The elegance I havent heard of anyone paying over 40k (~22.1K pounds) even for a fully loaded one. Most seem to be in that 35-38K range (19.3K - 21K pounds).

Base models (up to ambition+) and  vRS is where we seem to get the best deal. You can get a base model estate with travel pack (cruise, 8spk stereo, all airbag safety options, 17" wheels) for ~25K (13.8K pounds). Our base model is the 1.4T TSI 103kw (140hp). I know a guy that ticked every single option on the vRS and signed for ~47K (26K pounds).

We dont get amundsen as an option - only columbus. The general spec of our cars seems higher and we have fewer options to pick from. Our prices seem generally good (except for elegance for some reason) but we cant have whatever transmission we want unlike you guys. No such thing as a manual diesel here either.......

4-5 months is the shortest wait for any car if its an order. 8+ months if its an RS.

However, here in oz we get completely reamed for most brand cars (except apparently VW/Skoda!) so an equivalent opposing car like a mazda 6 wagon is around 8K AUD more (4.4K pounds!!!), and wouldnt offer the level of equipment the skoda has. Mazda also has 6 month/10 000 km service intervals in australia - they are one of the most expensive cars to service over 3 yrs!!! (around 2.5K AUD (~1300 pounds), vs ~1K AUD (500 quid) for a skoda assuming 30K in 3yrs).

BMW/Merc anything else euro are crazy priced compared to the UK. We generally pay 40-80% more for the same car than you guys :(

My favourite example is a M3 - around 56K pounds list in the UK (so 100K AUD) - we pay ~180-190K AUD for one.......

Regardless......it is interesting to compare what other countries get (PS did you see we can get chrome window trim as an option :D ). Even better reading about an owner that's had theirs for so long and has had a good experience! Keep up the log, it's nice to know the car I have to wait a bloody long time for appears worth it!

I remember my time in Australia back in the late 80's/early 90's when Bob Hawke, followed by Paul Keating, were prime ministers, and the government announced their intention to start massively taxing any 'foreign' or luxury imported goods in order to promote 'Australian Made' and supposedly boost Australia's economy.

Car importers (and therefore the end purchasers) were pegged to take one of the biggest hits, and I seem to recall mention of up to 50%+ on certain brands, but I don't know if this ever came about or still exists as I (very regrettably) left Oz, but it would explain why BMW's and Mercs are so expensive still… and must just mean that VW and Skoda are not classed as 'luxury'… fair enough!

Doesn't explain the Mazda thing… Mazda = luxury… nah!

Edited by Nookiebear

The import duty has slowly been reduced to ~5% (and should be abolished now that we have lost all car manufacturing from 2017 onwards) but the makers just kept the prices where they are.........the government wont abolish parallel import laws, so the one official importer/distributor is the one who sets the prices. Sadly, they have us by the balls, and there is nothing we can do about it, and the bloody government wont make changes so we dont get screwed over (i.e. allow parallel imports!) - despite all investigations into it suggesting we remove the import laws/duty laws and take up euro/UK safety standards (so they also dont have to make changes to cars to comply with our "local" ADR's (aus design rules)).......but we can only dream!

Interesting figures, only bonus is the manual for the UK market it would seem, everything else with the Skoda you guys seem to get it good.

Yes I saw that, I can live without it but I would have liked to add it to mine as I do think it finishes the car off. It's not over the top, just a subtle addition.
