Have I missed something; TDI 140 now tax band F

Featured Replies

Just spotted the SUK site lists the emission of the 140 as 149 putting it in tax band F. It was 157 Band G a year ago :wonder:

My 140, build week 13 of 2013; shows as 157g/Km on the V5c.

The mystery deepens then :wonder:

All SUK literature is now stating 149 as far as I can see, although Skoda Germany still state 157

Another SUK miss-info or is there really something new e.g engine update for the MY14 140 :wonder: :wonder:

140 DSG, 170 & 110 stay the same mind.

Have they removed the spare wheel from the standard spec? I thought the change of weight was enough to nudge them up or down a tax band.

The spare wheel is an option. It is not standard. I had to pay for it on my Elegance, which was the top spec model at the time.......

I have thrown a spanner in the works good and proper - I have a full size spare..

For the record, my V5 shows first reg 01 09 12, 169 g/Km. (140ps TDi DSG 4x4).

Don't think so, it's either wrong info or a change coming soon; spare or not.

No different to my 2010 registered Yeti then.

My 2010 140tdi 4x4 is 157g/Km in the V5, just had it's first MOT and all the emission readings were 0%, the tester did it twice as he thought his machine was wrong.

Yeti diesel no longer imported to Israel.

I asked the dealer why and he told me the emission laws are going to be much stricter and put the diesel yeti (and similar vehicles) in a dear tax band,so VAG Israel are waiting to see what happens.

Trouble is it will soon fall victim to the laws of diminishing returns.

The higher the taxes / fuels the more green (zero rated) cars get sold which results in less revenue - both from direct and indirect taxation.

I read somewhere that VED is already down by a significant amount over 5 years ago - even though there are more cars on the road...

Right you are,Loftypeak.

Governments will always find creative ways of milking the working man just a bit more.

Governments don't milk people for tax... That tax pays for the roads you drive on, the hospitals that fix you when you're sick, etc, etc. Without tax NONE of that would exist. Not a difficult concept to understand I would have thought. So I'm happy paying tax. If Greece was happy to have paid their income tax (instead of up to 30% of people dodging it) they would probably not have been in the situation they are now. You can't not pay tax and still expect the roads you drive on (for example) to not have potholes in them...

........but I pay all my taxes and all the roads I drive on have potholes in them.

That is alas also the case here in London... But do you think a government can raise taxes to pay for that? Hardly possible as everyone will complain more about that and think some magic fairies will just print money and sprinkle some fairy dust over the roads to fix them. Honestly I sometimes wonder how many people realise what tax is for.

So we pay taxes so we wont have potholes, but we have them anyway?

So maybe they should buy fairy dust with the tax money instead :giggle:

Do the packets come with that little liquorice straw like sherbet, if so, I would like two please.

They used to have a tax just for that. It was called the Road Fund Licence and was levied on most vehicles on the road. I believe that the first person to 'raid' it was Winston Churchill.

When people began complaining about how little was spent on the roads, the Government renamed it the Vehicle Excise Licence.

I remember when it was called the road fund licence, but they changed the name so they could steal it, and now the roads are paid for out of the council tax :wall:

Not all roads are. Some i.e. main roads are maintained by the Highways Agency, which is why local roads are resurfaced, but the main trunk roads aren't. Some of the busiest roads are in the worst condition.

The potholes as you are aware of were caused by the snow. We are in a recession, I keep being told, and the government aren't collecting as much tax, so they keep on making cuts, by not filling potholes.....as a result of those cuts.

My garden was covered in snow for a few weeks; how come I have to dig it as well?

I'd like to quote an example of the stupidity of the Highways Agency/County Council/District Council "responsibilities".

Near to our home is a large roundabout that feeds the A27 Shoreham Flyover. There are four exit/entrance roads that feed onto the roundabout. The grass on the roundabout is cut in pretty patterns around the periphery and across the centre, (there are also 4 sheep and a shepherd!) the access roads are cut to differing heights and the whole lot are cut from two to four times a year. The visibility from the access roads to the roundabout is, at best poor and at worst results in you having to encroach onto the carriageway before you can see any approaching traffic.

As I consider there is a traffic hazard I have tried reporting it but the only reply I can get is that it the responsibility of the Highways Agency/County Council/District Council depending on which road is affected. It appears that one contractor does the actual work but he has contracts with the respective authority and can only follow their instructions! I have even seen it being cut when it is about 5cm tall!

The last time I complained I was told "You should drive according to the Highway Code and not according to local conditions".

Now my understanding is that local conditions are very relevant to how you should drive but perhaps I shouldn't always be trying to follow the man with the red flag, unless of course he is driving a mowing machine................

Rant over. I feel a bit better now.
