James' VR6T 4 Motion Golf. Now SOLD!

VR6OC forum is a sleepy hollow compared to Briskoda.  I am sure the 12 Valve is different to the 24 valve, the one I bought is basically 4" square box steel and a machined face for seating against the head.

Is it possible to get the same on again from a scrap yard and modify it? use the machined faces and then add a top tube maybe?

  • Well after a really early start this morning I have sold my Golf to a guy from Dartford, he has big plans for more power, a roll cage and getting it road legal again, I agreed to deliver it for some b

  • 2015 is now here, the next chapter in the life of the Golf is about to begin!  After the low boost set up in 2014, I am happy to run that in 2015 whilst I go collecting parts again, the plan is 450 bh

  • Just spoken to Wayne and paid him, he has squeezed 280.6bhp at 6450rpm and 274 lb/ft torque at 4300rpm with 6psi boost, so I am quite happy with these figures, from a stock block and piston, he has al

OK there has been a development, my initial problem was ESP cutting even when switched off, after a bit of fettling and internet swatting up and of course the obligatory support from Ross Tech, I have coded out the ESP part of the controller.

So heres how you do it.  This is for an MK60 controller.

 Open VCDS

 go to 03, ABS

 Then goto Coding

In coding you will see the long number, in my case it was 0023046 you need to subtract 2048 = 20998 this number, your new number is the code,

Enter this code and hit Do It!

ESP has gone, the button no longer functions and my car corners without hinderance from ESP as the local roundabout has confirmed.

I am a happy chap to say the least

You on fb dude? Decompression gasket for sale on there

Thanks for the heads up Si, however, I think the 12 valve and 24 valve are different..  as per the SRI

Wasn't sure but thought it was worth a look. I'd love the Sri he has but that's out of my budget at the min :(

You will drop on mate, I got mine for £100 with the throttle body too!  Keep looking

Compression dropping gasket ordered from United Motorsport, also ECU will be flashed for a simple 400 bhp out put UM's words not mine.

Apparently 400 bhp is simple on the V6, best start looking for some brakes!!

cant beleive I just found this! lol.... I had a drive around oulton park in this (thanks James) suspension is great, turn in great , brakes great, a bit slow on the straights, nannying ESP, pain in the arse having to use your left foot ;)

with a turbo and ESP off, should be rapid!

Been following this for a bit now having done a mk4 4motion turbo before.

400bhp is easily achievable, you will however need the following bits;

Uprated fuel pump

Bigger injectors

3" exhaust system

Large enough turbo, I ran an HX40

Circa 1.5bar boost

Decent charge/intercooler

3" boost pipes

Larger maf sensor or map sensing management

Uprated clutch

Smaller plug gaps

Uprated ignition coil

It will be a good journey to get your power goal, I really enjoyed it, looking forward to seeing how you do it your way.

Nice looking inlet manifold btw ;-)

Thanks for the info 4moturbo, just an update on what I have lined up.

Exhaust will be a bespoke 3" turbo back, this will also have a quick change CAT so it can be put back in when the need arises!

 Injectors will be 630cc

Map will come from United Motorsport as is the decompression head spacer.

Turbo is a T4 so should be a good starting point.

Not sure about the coil packs yet, as for the clutch, the one that is in will do until it dies, I know an uprated one is the way to go but in the early stages we have to spend the money wisely or this project could get way off budget!

Another month or so we should my hands getting dirty and some more pictures to add to this thread.

My SRI was a steal from Ireland, I collected it in Belfast and as a starting point will be just fine, a bonus is that it weighs a ton so should help with any understeer.  lol

Not so much that the clutch will "die" more the fact it will just slip as soon as you make more than .5 bar boost rendering all the rest of the power useless, be lucky if you can put 280 lbft through it.

What's the spec of your t4? Sounds good!

I made that inlet manifold btw

I can confirm it will never rot through and somewhere near where you live a big chunk of 4" steel gate post is missing

You certainly did not want it to be flimsy lol..   I read your thread and saw the pictures, it also has the old throttle body that is cable operated and not electronic.

I best start looking for a clutch kit too from your comments above..

Turbo is a T4, apart from that I am unsure (not a turbo expert, it is brand new)  I will get some pictures of it tomorrow and post them up, also whatever the numbers are I will get them too, all my bits are at the garage so can't look now.

Cool, you maybe need to take the compressor cover and exhaust housing off to measure the inducer/exducer on both wheels?

Just food for thought, your DBW throttle body won't bolt directly on that manifold

I am expecting to be making a few mods, Si, my trusty mechanic has turbo'd many cars, current car is a G60, 2 litre 8 valve with 460 bhp, so I am in good hands I think.

This will be a big learning curve for me and I am looking forward to it.

Great thread, keep up the good work, hope I get the chance to see this in action on a track day come next spring.

Sparkly, I am hoping to get a sneaky Blyton Park in before we strip the big pink pig over winter, work commitments permitting.

I am certainly hoping t be out at Castle Combe spring action day, and then How Fast in June, Oulton Park will also be a definite.

All dependant on getting the work done and working

460 bhp from a 2l 8v! That's good going! I bet that's not very streetable? Must be revving it some to achieve that? Got a link to a build thread?

Si does not do build threads, he is quiet keep it to himself type guy.  The G60 is his everyday drive, he has done lots of different turbos to get the right balance, he used to own the fastest diesel in Europe, back in the 90's. It was a MK 2 Golf, diesel turbo, loads done to it and it featured in a magazine, not sure which. it would do 0-100mph and stop quicker than an Escort Cosworth in the day..

Also Russ Fellows will be doing my exhaust, he has an uber fast road legal Beetle, go back a page or two on here and you will see the youtube clip.

Looks like you have the right guys for help and support around you.

You got the gen on this blower yet? V6 turbos are monsters!

Is Si's g60 still 4x4? What gearbox/rear diff is he running in the mk2?

  • Author

Front wheel drive mate, has a limited slip diff in there too, car looks stock, so the ultimate sleeper.

Oh I see, just my good friend has a 2.8 24v v6 turbo mk2 synchro, o2m 6speed with Haldex 4x4 too, best 1/4 so far is 12.3 seconds.

Anything over 200bhp fwd is not really usable! Hence why we have gone 4motion now, you too ;)
