James' VR6T 4 Motion Golf. Now SOLD!

Featured Replies

I went 4x4 because the car was a 4 motion, I got this Golf unbelievably cheap at £350.  If it had been a MK iii 2.0 GTI for the same money I would have had that now, I did not choose the car it was just there and it was cheap.

I have to agree with high power in a two wheel drive car can be quite insane! Hopefully the 4 motion will cope well without modifications.

  • Well after a really early start this morning I have sold my Golf to a guy from Dartford, he has big plans for more power, a roll cage and getting it road legal again, I agreed to deliver it for some b

  • 2015 is now here, the next chapter in the life of the Golf is about to begin!  After the low boost set up in 2014, I am happy to run that in 2015 whilst I go collecting parts again, the plan is 450 bh

  • Just spoken to Wayne and paid him, he has squeezed 280.6bhp at 6450rpm and 274 lb/ft torque at 4300rpm with 6psi boost, so I am quite happy with these figures, from a stock block and piston, he has al

O2m and Haldex are good for over 500 bhp reliably in standard form, you will be able to use that power in every gear too! Not just 4+5th ;)

I am looking forward in so many ways to starting this project, first because I am interested in how it will all go together, the last thing I was involved in turboing was a FiatAgri 100/40 tractor, it went to 140 hp and was a really simple bolt on and injection pump tweak.

Then the snagging bits will need doing to iron out the bugs, then the fun bit, get it on track and see how it performs!!

Then I guess plan B will be drawn up, the next stage, bigger brakes, bigger turbo, bigger figures and forged rods etc, who knows where this will lead, I have an open mind on what to do and when, so spur of the moment choices will be made, in fact I am looking at Forged rods now, so this might be done in the first instance, but then again it might not. lol

I will have plenty of pics from the build though.

Yeah I'll be watching with interest! This is the fourth 4motion turbo that I've ever heard of!

You got the sizes of this turbo yet?

It is a T4 from China, apart from that I don't know, it is huge compared to what I was expecting.  I will pictures soon, not been at the garage yet.

Cool, had a few Chinese turbos before the holsets, they work well

for the money they look very good... as they are cheap it means it will be easy to buy a few of differing characteristics to see what combo gives the best power delivery.  I will end up with a shelf in the garage that will look like a snail colony

I ran a t3t4 .63ar exhaust .50 comp housing on mine for a bit, good for around 330-350 bhp, really likes a bigger turbo though, that's when they really come alive!

talking foreign to me now, I think you keep forgetting I am new to this, I will have to read a book on all the numbers of turbos

Sparkly, I am hoping to get a sneaky Blyton Park in before we strip the big pink pig over winter, work commitments permitting.

I am certainly hoping t be out at Castle Combe spring action day, and then How Fast in June, Oulton Park will also be a definite.

All dependant on getting the work done and working

Just hope Mean Green gets a run out against Big Pink :o 'chortle' before it goes all lightspeed fast with that turbo on

Have you seen the Anglesey track day with Simpson Skoda?  £89 on 8th November. Tempted although it is short notice.

Cool, that to me looks like a .50 ar compressor, probably mated to a .63 ar T3 exhaust, same as the one I just took off my 2.0.

This is what I ended up with on

Sooo tempted, will keep an eye on who looks to be going.

My preference had been to get my first outing with a predominantly Briskie crowd if possible. Minimal interest in mixing it with a bunch of tools but reading the brief on Simpsons website this sounds ideal.

Yup, massively tempted!

Looks very posh, I might have to invest in one of these, I will ask my trustee mechanic tomorrow, I might have one in my kit already??

 Thanks Trev

No probs any weight loss from Front end will be good, the us sites seem to have done a bit to the v6's, you can get the eml coded out too that it will through up after a while

I see resistors can be used to keep the light off, then others say the chip needs sorting to keep it off.   Also a lot of people just use a blanking bolt, bling looks expensive to hide behind the inlet manifold.

I will definitely cross this bridge when I get to it.

All the good bits the yanks do are for the 24v's or the us spec 12v's which are different over here :(

which is probably a good thing as they know how to charge!!   In the future I may use these guys for forged rods although I have heard they are only the same as Chinese forged rods with integrated engineering marked on them....

Yep lucky us lol

Does that plate go down the back of the head beside the throttle body? Pretty sure the turbo exhaust manifold does something about blanking off the egr not sure about secondary air injection?

Yeah it's near the exhaust manifold

The turbo manifold on mine blanked it off, I left the valve off it no worries at all
