Budget Track Day Car Wanted...

Featured Replies

After Brunters, and a meeting with the bank manager telling me I couldn't afford to buy out the lease on my vRS - I'm looking for a track day car.

I thought I had won a Capri 3.0 V6 for

Depends what you're after, but stripped out old hot hatches can be fun. Nova GTE, Pug 205 GTI, Citroen AX, etc, etc :D

Chris

Hows about a Peugeot 205 GTI?? Possibly with an Mi16 engine conversion.

Hmmm. I'm sure Nova GTE's must be fairly cheap now...

As for the AX - Dad had a GTi, not that fast at all really :thumbdwn:

Dont go for a Nova.. I had a GTE and a SR but always wanted a 1.9 205 GTi. ;)

see if you can get hold of an old fiat uno turbo, a bleed valve will let the engine run 130 bhp, which in a car that weighs about 700kg is awsome ! (I had one, timed it to 60 in 5.5 seconds with the bleed valve on full!) they don't handle though... plus , not sure if any still survive! lol...

got one! here! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9843&item=4557907459&rd=1

or buy my old C2 GT!!

Oddly enough Tom, since Brunters myself and Steve have been having similar thoughts... We're going down the old skool hatch route... possibly a stripped caged XR2i...

But you have a car you can use on the track!

I know a stripped out hot hatch probably ain't as quick, but it leaves the daily runner to do what it needs to do, and ultimately I think a noisy old pocket rocket would be a right hoot!

I've seen some auctions that include trailers too! A 205 Mi16 converted with roll cage, buckets and harnessess etc with a trailer for under a grand! If only I had the funds available now  :thumbdwn:

:D

old toyota mr2 rounded shape about

A proper xr2, stripped out with a new cam, twin 40's full system will see you good for a laugh and a good start. And you can pick them up for under

there was a old golf gti at the vag trackday.thing was fully stripped out and all the windows were plastic, roll cage, huge brakes almost standard engine, suspension and tyres done on it and it wasnt exactly slow

Old hatches is the way to go...for the cost of a car you would still be saving for new body and paint repair on yor own car.

Nova with XE engine conversion, it's so common a conversion you can buy the kits to do it. Stripped out Nova with 150 bhp is always going to be fun.

RWD for me, sideways is the way to go :D

Steve

I have two Carlton GSI 24v,one manual no mot but goes well (bought as spares car but complete) and a GSI 24v auto, now I have my vRS I do want to sell one preferably the manual, and I intend to use the auto  for trackdays. These cars have 204bhp as standard and are RWD so there is a built in fun factor :D anyone interested? pm me for details.

the carlton gsi 24v is a great car! if I had the spare cash, I'd buy the manual off you!
