Adding rear disc breaks to my Fabia Monte Carlo...

Featured Replies

Hi,

Could anyone advise on the following...

Is there any factory option that will add rear disc breaks to my Fabia Monte Estate?

I noticed that on the Greenline and the VRS (i think) they have HHC and TPM as standard and they also include rear disc breaks....so if i add the ESC + will it add rear disc breaks to the car?

I hate having Drum breaks! look horrid...

Cheers

i think drum brakes are just standard across all the monte carlos whatever you so or dont spec. it's a shame as i would really like rear disks just for the aesthetics more than anything... drums don't look great on a sporty car (N)

the rest of europe got rear disks on the montes so i dont know why the uk had to be different :(

No way of getting drums on the monte from the factory. Retrofitting is a huge undertaking and not worth it.

Braking power from the front discs will be fine as the Monte has such a low power output.

If anything rear discs are a potential extra problem as they're so underused that calipers get sticky and discs get corroded.

Why don't you just get the drums powder coated if aesthetics is the issue? The discs are so small at the back on the Fabia they don't look cool or anything.

yeah i was going to say paint them black anyway... mine were grey when i got the car but quickly turned a rusty brown colour :/

Brakes.

Sorry.

Cheers for the posts guys. I have had cars previously with rear drums and all i did was paint them as mentioned. Ill prob do the same with these aswell.

What do people reckon if i painted them white?? Good contrast or not?

What colour is the car / wheels? I have white wheels and they stay looking nice and clean for about, oh, one mile....

Where are you getting this done?

Thanks

Black or gunmetal would look good. I'd recommend shot blasting and zinc coating for rust protection.

I've done some more digging on this one...

I spoke to the dealership and asked 'if I add ESC+ will it add rear disc breaks' there response was 'no it wont but ESC is now standard on EVERY car'

I then called SUK and asked the same question and there answer was 'YES, it will add rear disc breaks to the vehicle, the Greenline and the VRS have ESC+ as standard and they have rear discs fitted'

I have received this conversation in an email from SUK and have gone ahead and ordered ESC+.

MY EDD is mid August 2013

ill let you know....

GLENT54321 - Thanks for finding this out - I might do this too.

Do you mind posting how much it cost you to add ESC+?

Had a look on the Skoda website and it still says £485, but am hoping it's less now that ESC is standard.

Ye the website configurator is wrong...

Its 129.?? To add ESC+

I got the email so that if my car turns up without rear discs i can atleast try getting my money back from SUK for false claims.

Great! Thanks, will get on and order pronto, before she's built.

I'm having real trouble trying to get anything sensible out of either my dealers or SUK about ESC, ESC+ and rear discs - everyone, the configurator, SUK, the dealers, all disagree with each other. I'm not sure I trust any of them!

Can't you just swop in all for a vrs set up ? I am thinking of getting one and after the warrant is up vrs brakes all round and lowering springs and maybe a map. Should be a real nice car then ?

No point IMO of swapping for a Fabia vRS set up as they stop no better than Monte Drums will

& certainly do not look the part with its teeny weeny discs.

If your going to upgrade you might as well put something that works or looks better.

(my favourite Black Sport has the build and brake/suspension & body upgrades in the Project section.)

I was hoping this would make the braking more like on my Fabia 1, which has rear discs and noticably better braking. Do you think it's a waste of time?

Looks wise i would say yes, a waste of time.

For Braking, you better ask someone that uses them with any vigour,

i slow down with the gearbox and use the brakes very seldom, (probably why mine gets so rusty.)

they are only so so.

Work OK as a hand brake and the standard discs get surface rust at a hint of moisture when parked and need a bit of a cleaning off each morning IME.

Looks are very subjective thing. To me any discs no matter how small look better than drums, but that of course is just my personal view.

I'd be shocked if speccing esc+ also includes an upgrade to rear discs but it would be awesome if it did! Let us know how you get on.

i also agree, i think that rear disc breaks, no matter how small, look FAR better than drum breaks...

Im just hoping SUK told me the right info...otherwise ill be asking for my money back.

i also have plans for the drum breaks IF i end up with them, ill prime them with zinc spray then a coating of hammerright smooth white. thik it'll look much better than rust drums....
