Winking "individual" front fogs

Featured Replies

You have to allow for the lowest possible standards when driving, not expect your standards to be the norm. Being dead right is scant consolation to your relatives.

I've been following this thread with interest with me using DRL and cornering fogs. Everybody has made valid points but the above quote, in my opinion, is the most sensible thing said so far. It should apply for all conditions (defensive driving has kept me alive on Crete for over 20 holidays there). A defensive driving attitude is essential for everybody's well being and the points raised in this thread, even if some think dubious, are worth being there in the back of ones mind while driving. However I do not feel the need to go as far as not using DRL and try to turn off cornering fogs.

In the 3 years I've had my Yeti no-one has ever confused the cornering fog-light function, or the DRL's as a "come-on"! I find the cornering fog-light function very useful, especially parking at work

  • There's not a bit of patronising in this thread that is taking the high ground and ignoring the fact that the roads are used by people, and people are all different. Yes, we are all perfect drivers a

  • Where to start.... Let's for argument's sake ignore the DRL's and what happens when you go over a bump and pretend we are talking of the headlights on dipped beam. Now, in nearly 300,000 miles of driv

I have to totally agree - the advice that my father had always been giving me when I first started driving was "Drive like everyone on the road is stupid, incompetent or both". It has served me well over the years, as I have found it to be true on more than one occasion.

It should apply for all conditions (defensive driving has kept me alive on Crete for over 20 holidays there).

Then again, maybe it has to do with me driving in Greece for so long! :-)

It's interesting that this thread comes exactly at a time when I was thinking of activating the cornering fogs via VCDS, and am now not so sure whether to do it. I may experiment for a while and report back.

See and be seen gcp go ahead and activate.

Too true there are far too many aggressive and impatience drivers around these days who often flash their lights regardless. Two weeks ago I was slowing down for lights starting to flash on a level crossing and the bloke in a white van behind flashed three times me as I slowed. He then proceeded to overtake me almost at the crossing gates and swerved between the barriers and onwards. I could imagine this sort of idiot would pull out at junctions etc. if he saw any resemblance of a flashing light. However, to add to the debate I feel safer with the DRL's ON

Both will shine when reverse is chosen.

Anyone got any ideas why?

If you are going backwards what do you need both front fogs to come on for?

So that you can see better where the front is going.

Because, of course, you're taking all round observations while you reverse, aren't you ;)

My bog standard DRL's bulbs don't shine "off-white" they are yellow, like all lights used to be.

I did fit the LED ones from benzinfabriqe but took them out after a couple of weeks, as on sunny days they were barely visible, and on cloudy dull days nothing like the "real" led's lots of cars now have.

Can someone put this thread out of it's misery! :wall:

Having had the pleasure of commuting to work for two years in Paris both inside and on the Périphérique......you really dont no how good you have it. The stories being told really fall into insignificance. Personally, I think the majority of Uk drivers are probably best drivers in the World....Yeti or not.

I think, based on the balance of all that's gone on, that i shall put myself in the "don't start a thread like this" corner. :x

Is that anywhere near my corner? Do you have beer there?

I don't think anyone who starts a tedious thread like that deserves beer!

I reckon there should be a 'special' corner for the starting of threadotedium and torture of some kind may be more appropriate!

If you don't like the thread or aren't able / willing to contribute then why bother posting?

I like posts like this, it's a forum about cars. Guess what, we're talking about car stuff!

I'm grateful to the OP.

Well i've seen seats, vw's and audis have the corner fog light come on with no lights on at all.

I've assumed the Yetis the same, it's hard to see it and drive it at the same time.

I think you must have mistaken a DRL as a cornering foglight?

Cornering fogs don't work unless the car has dipped headlights on. This applies to all manufacturers.

I agree, but this thread has repeated the same points over and over and over again. The bottom line is there are those in the DLR CFL camp and those that are not. I suppose we should agree to disagree about whether they are considered dangerous or not, but the constant raking over of the pros and cons is becoming just a little tedious in my humble opinion. I know I have the option of not looking or contributing if it bores me and will take your advice for which I humbly thank you. :)

Its the reading of other peoples perceptions that keeps me interested, we're all different after all.

As long as the discussion or debate remains polite then I enjoy posts like these.

As for repeating the same points over and over again a day doesn't go by without a new DRL / foglight thread :giggle:

Well in 50 years of driving I've never ever had any trouble with just dipped headlights or main beam if the situation allows, in fact unless it's pitch black ie no street lights etc it's not easy to tell when the fogs have come on. And when I'm reversing I'm more concerned where the a**e end is going. ( should be something there for Bob )
