Hey all

I'm just about to take delivery of my 18" neptunes and wondered what the recommended PSI is for them? The tyres are 225/40/18 as standard.

I'm assuming 30/31 allround, but thought I'd check first!

After knackering too many tyres on our sh1tty roads personally I'd go up to 34 for the fronts and 32 for the rears.

Interesting. What sort of difference do you notice? I've just kept mine to the standard recommendation, should I think about changing them?

I was running 34 since temp had crept up. Had my wheel aligned last week and they recommended dropping the pressure back down again.

I’ve found this too, hence I run mine a tad higher than the 29(front) and 30 (rear) recommended by the book at 33 and 35.

I’m not sure if extra load tyres make a difference....

I have a feeling you need to have your wheels aligned at the pressure you intend to use but the choice of pressure is pretty subjective. High pressures will give a more responsive feel but give the suspension and occupants a harder time and will ultimately provide less grip. Lower pressures will be less responsive but offer more low speed traction and braking, will give the suspension and occupants an easier time but use more fuel, wear the tyres out quicker and also ultimately provide less grip.

I am a 40psi man myself. I have been told many times that this will unevenly wear the tyres out in the middle. It doesn't.

I go with the standard load figures as posted on the fuel flap and its been fine. Came overinflated from the factory and drove much better as soon as adjusted. Not noticing any strange tyre wear after 5k miles either.

I went with 34 allround, but will obviously keep a check on them often as they are new (to me).

Got to say, I'm surprised at how loud the Dunlop Maxx tyres are. I'd heard they were pretty audible, but sheesh!

The last car I had was a '99 facelift 2.5 Vectra B GSi and the official supplement booklet on that said to run it at (up to 3 persons) 27psi front and 25.5 rear. . Never came across anyone bonkers enough to run them that low intentionally.

I run the Vrs (18 inch Zeniths) at 33 front and 32 rear.

38 psi allround for me.

I don't often carry load in the boot.

Another vote for 38 all round.

32 all round but never questioned it.. :wonder:

34 all round for me with 225/45x17.

I was running 38 but started to get centre tread wear because 90% of my mileage is spent on a motorway. 34 feels quite doughy in the first few months.

Keep in mind that it also depends on the tyre itself. Some have quite a stiff, uncompliant sidewall (RE050A springs to mind); others are pretty soft (CSC2).

34 all round for me - had 32/30 on for a while, but way too squidgy in the feeling, so upped it to 34 all round and much better - not sure about going higher than that, but might try the next time I do a tyre check.

A number of tyre fitting places here in oz recommend 40psi on low profile tyres.

I personally think that's too high.

I'd b more comfortable on 36, but I've settled for 38 all round.

To all those above recommending 34 all round... are you cars modified?
