False alarm?

Featured Replies

Chaps,

Had the alarm go off last night for no apparent reason and wondered if anyone else has had anything similar happen to them.

I parked up locked the car and nipped into my golf club after dropping my son off at work. I was only inside around 30 seconds and when I came out the alarm was going off. No one was anywhere near the car, it wasn't windy and when I got back in the car I checked the maxidot and all the doors were shut correctly and the windows were fullyclosed. The only thimg I noticed was there was a big daddy long legs buzzing round the inside of the car so I suspect this triggered the alarm off, so I was wondering has anyone else had something similar happen to them?

Cheers

Happened to me several times - usually caused by tiny moths that lie dormant until dark then fly about and trigger the alarm. I would think a daddy long legs would have no bother setting it off!

My next door neighbour wet to America and left me with his car and the alarm went off a few times. The prob was the alarm settings was set too high according to experts and after it was lowered it worked fine

This happens to mine as well but I have never looked for any insects inside my car when it has done it. I have reported it to the dealers and they fiddled with the alarm but it still does it. It averages out that the alarm will go off about 2-3 times a month but it has done it 6 times in one month before :(

My mk1 octavia did't stop for a while, when i 1st got it the alarm wouldn't shut up, but it then settled down for 3 years and then started again! weird

Thanks chaps,

I'l ask my dealer if he can calm it down on it's 1st service if I get any more falsies

cheers

I had problems with mine for the first few weeks after I got it.

Took it in and asked them to turn the sensitivity down, which they did and I've not had a false alarm since.

A fly can set it off no bother so one of those big lanky ****** would do it for certain.

Mine tends to go off occasionally when I am camping in France and the odd occassion in UK. No idea why. Maybe once a year?

Octavia 59 plate 1.9 diesel auto.

Alarm goes off randomly once 3 times in a row at 2 a.m

Pressing open, close then open and close  [close again] did appear to stop it.

[internal door pillar switch did not do anything to stop this]

Dealer say they reduced the sensitivity of the sensor 9 days ago but hey 9 a.m this morning it went off again!

Told it could be low battery on the sounder? Manual indicates alarm only has 5 years life! I could pull the fuse but then this may affect insurance?

Car is under a dealer warranty [12000 miles to date]

Has anyone actually had this problem resolved? If so what was done to rectify this?

My mkII vRS has gone off a few times.  Most occasions it has been in very hot weather and maybe 30 secs after locking it.  A couple of times recently it has gone off at night some time after locking it up.  I'll get the dealer to adjust the sensitivity.

Don't know if a low battery in the alarm horn can cause this but if it is get it replaced by the dealer under warranty as they cost about £90.

something else to try, I mentioned it in another topic on random alarm soundings. The latches on the doors, make sure they are all done up tight.

My old civic used to go off randomly and it turned out one of the hooks on the car body was slightly loose and caused the alarm to randomly go off
