How much for Red paint !

Featured Replies

We are going to get a 170 diesel DSG 4x4 Yeti, as it can do the job of my wife's one (she needs auto) and mine (power, 4x4 and towing track car).

Problem is, we want red and well specced.

Obvious choice is an L&K with a few options added.

But not available in red.

So we may have to go for an Elegance with lots of options to get to the same spec.

Figure doing that, the red paint is going to cost us around £1,200.

Not very impressed. :wonder:

As I have my Yeti in order and been in waiting mode for delivery I can tell you for what its worth, that extra metallic color (be it red or any other) here in Greece is 580 Euros extra on the price list. Of course its a different country so some price differences would be expected but this one IMHO is huge!

The problem in the UK is that Red (not metallic) is not available on the top spec car.

So you have to buy a lower spec and add all the options, thus making it £1,200 more expensive than if you could buy the top spec in the red.

So although non-metallic is usually cheaper, in this case it's quite a bit more expensive.

Do you really need red again? Or all of those extras?

I ordered a standard Elegance 170 with a tow bar, that is it, no sat nag, no parking aids or front sensors.

I think this is a decision of what is wanted and not needed, ok it looks flash but all you do is line the dealers pocket for the add ons.

Did I mention that white Yetis look the best.....   :bandit:

Hear! Hear!

I see. Here in Greece we only have 3 choices (Active, Ambition and Experience) and if you go for say one of the 2 lower specs and start adding things, the metallic color would still be 580 Euros on top of the bill. I am not sure about red if it is considered a metallic color or not price-wise though. I know for sure that white is considered non metallic hence no extra cost but I cant remember about red. But still 1200 pounds is a wee bit high nevertheless.

On another note, you are lucky to have CR170 4x4 with DSG. We dont have that here (yet at least).

Even worse if you wanted cloth rather than "leather" seats - highest spec there is SEPlus!

I looked at the L&K as well, until I realised you can have any interior colour you like as long as it's BLACK...

Why not just keep the one you've got? I thought you'd spent a fair bit of time and money getting it just how you want it.

Would e-mail the CEO and ask him why your being asked to pay over the odds for the options you desire just because you live in the UK not the rest of Europe (what happened to a common market ;)  ). Mind don't mention Germany as red is a cost option there or at least it was last I knew.

Even in CZ and Germany red is not available on the L&K from the look of the configurator.

A candy white L&K......lovely

Cant you buy one on special order?

Replacing two with one.  170 4x4 like I have now, but DSG.

It will mostly be my wife's car and I can sue it as a tow car for track days.

If I get red (which we prefer) I can change my nice seats over with the red stiching too. :)

I previously asked.

Skoda man: Computer says no.

Forgot that yours was manual  :)

I'd have rather had a 1.8 Tsi DSG, but Skoda don't flippin well do that either.

For the Citigo and trailer I need a towing limit of around 1700kg.

Would it not be cheaper to get an L&K in White and the wrap it Red?

It's just money; life's way too short - you got to get EXACTLY what you want........ Order it tout suite!!

They look like postman pat's van in red. I was sure I wanted a red one til I saw one in the metal.

In the flesh Red looks a treat, we had two of them at the mega meet and they both looked great. Just my opinion...

After all I do like fire engine red. :giggle:

Red does look great, but on yetis I just can't help feeling it just needs a royal mail logo on the side....

I always feel you are getting ripped off with metallic paint, nearly £500 more over standard paint, can anybody explain or justify why the costs are so high for this type of finish, or is it just away for manufacturers to increase profit.

I was told these non-metallic paints often cost more than certain popular metallics at wholesale. Metallic paints cost more at retail because you are willing (enough) to pay more ... ;)

Simple market economics!  The price you pay has little to do with cost and everything to do with value.

What is a Picasso painting worth?  A few wooden sticks, sheet of canvas, half a dozen pots of paint, a few hours labour...

Lift my entire street from Guiseley and plant it in central London and you could stick a zero on the end of my house's value - same house, same street...

Same with everything to do with cars.  Why does a 1.4TSi cost more than a 1.2TSi - engines must cost about the same to make.but the price difference in the Yeti is over £800.  Look at the variants of the 1.6TDi in the Fabia range and the only difference between the power outputs of 75, 90 and 105PS is the ECU map but the 90 is £500 more than the 75 and the 105 is £350 more than the 90.

The price is set by what people are prepared to pay.  If people refused to pay the extra £400-500 for metallic paint then the price would fall.  If the price folk are prepared to pay is less than the cost of production (eg one of my paintings!!!) then the product comes off the market.
