Anyone taken out the 7 day Skoda insurance

Featured Replies

While it great that my Citigo is going to be delivered early, it means that it will be before I have my Getz sold. It is out of MOT and the earliest test appointment I could get was the 17th. Therefore I will not be able to transfer my insurance immediately. Just wondered if any of you had taken this out and are there any. Arty conditions?

Yes,i have today, basically only so the dealer can get the free tax put on it,because there's no way my insurance company will get cover note to me in time for friday.

hi  took advantage of insurance offer over the Christmas break 29/12/12   fine no problems at all but you must let the insurance run its course ie the seven days and start your own as the temp insurance lapses by law you cannot have two insurances on one car

Yes. And no, there are no catches.  It does give them the opportunity to quote for the year and gives you the opportunity to accept the quote - or refuse it if you don't like it.  Overall, they must gain more customers and make more money than it costs them to offer the 7 days free cover....which is OK as that's what they're there to do.

We've used the 7 day cover several times with no problems.

Just remember to make sure you swop over your own Insurance when the 7 days are up ...Ahem....

only gotcha is the £500 excess if you have a mishap

other than that what it says on tin, allows dealers to tax car and ensure it is fully legal when it drives off forecourt

I've always taken out the free insurance as a matter of course; it means I can change my own policy at my leisure, not knowing exactly to the day when I'll be getting the car, and also allows me to have a good chuckle at the quote they offer you, which in the case of my CItigo was 3 times what I am paying with eSure.

You can cancel the free insurance early, as I did. I was not happy with the £500 excess as my normal excess is much smaller with LV. LV were quite happy to insure from a fixed time as long as I undertook to cancel the Skoda insurance from the same time. I fact, I ended up double insured for a few hours as Skoda insurance said they had to cancel from midnight.

I took out the free 7 day cover, easy enough and no hassle. They give you a hassle free quote for the following 12 months and post it out to you. It's good comprehensive cover should you proceed with it as I did as the price was good too. Not too sure I will continue with it though as I've already had an excellent quote (around £70 cheaper) for renewal direct from Allianz insurance, that's who Skoda use

the only thing is, unlike many insurers skoda insurance selling points are

  • repairs done using genuine skoda parts
  • repairs done at a dealers (although how many have a full body shop I am not sure??)
  • if damage is more than a set percentage of the cars value in the first year (about 60-70% if I remember right) they just replace the car with one of same spec

some of that could account for the premium over the standard Allianz price

also skoda insurance very picky about who they offer a "good" price to, if you are not in the select group you get a good laugh and stupid price

Yes all that above comes with their insurance.

I'm getting ready for a good laugh when the renewal comes through, It's like they reel you in then bang, up it goes.

seems pretty much all companies are doing that, have changed my insurance 3 times in last 5 years due to the same issue, the AA being the worst for it I find

I've stuck with Aviva for my other car, an MX-5. Because it's an import most mainstream companies won't touch it, certainly Skoda (Allianz) insurance wouldn't when I asked.

One thing I've found with most of them they will try it on and inflate the renewal price as you say, prompting you to try elsewhere. Aviva do this every renewal, Why? yet I can barter them down to something which is acceptable to me, shouldn't have to though.
