Buying an Elegance but want SatNav

Featured Replies

Downloading the maps is illegal and a breach of copyright.

Whether you agree with Skoda's pricing policy or not, the dealer is the only legitimate way to obtain map updates at present.

Firmware is freely available on the Internet and is not available solely from 'underground' sources as it is legal to do so.

I was looking this myself, to help me adjust to my new location.

OEMrefits   http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/satnav-skoda.shtm    are offereing a colombus for £600 fitted if you can be in the M1 corridor or get to their place.  Seems a better deal than £450 off ebay, with all the dodgyness/agravation/frustration that may entail.

Bit pricey IMO

Bit pricey IMO

Compared to a dodgy eBay seller?

I went down the eBay route.

Never again. I had so many problems with my supplier. (And my unit, which the eventually replaced many months later)

That was with my old Octavia. I went factory build with the Yeti.

I bought off eBay!

No problems other than Eastern Europe maps installed. Seller sent an up to date copy of the Western Europe maps and all good since then.

Not all eBay sellers are out to rip you off.

I've just fitted DAB in my mum's Fabia (VW RCD 310 DAB). But I have used the proper aerial base -this incorporates a GPS receiver, telephone antennae and DAB and FM aerials. so would also be useful for retro fitting Amundsen or Columbus units.

The parts I used were:

Aerial base 6R0 035 501 D
Aerial mast 6R0035849A (thread size is different from normal one)

I also needed a Fakra cable to connect the aerial base to the head unit -unfortunately I could not get one out of Skoda as the part (5J7035549) was not available to the UK yet. I found a seller on eBay in China who make cables and enquired whether a cable that they had listed could be made but with a longer length (5m instead of 3m), they were very helpful and created a new eBay listing for me with a buy it now and in less than 2 weeks I had my cable for £11 including shipping (probably cheaper than Skoda anyway) I opted for Fakra Z jack to jack as Z is the universal and will plug in to any Fakra (A to K)
to avoid any confusion.

Obviously The length of cable required will be different from model to model and one new cable will be required for each new connection -the FM connection is already there and this provides the power for all of the electronics in the aerial base.

I think the Yeti already has a DAB has standard so it would be a case of just swopping out the headunit and tucking the GPS Antenna under the dash - did the same with a Dynavin unit on my old BMW tourer.

All Im concerned about is getting linked up with the Maxidot display and steering wheel controls, not too bothered about the voice controls

As far as I'm aware: on the Yeti ONLY the Columbus and Amundsen DAB models have DAB radio -you can get Amundsen without DAB and the Bolero unit does not have it. With regards to gps sensor -yes it can work shoved behind the dash somewhere -but results can vary as parts of the car can affect the signal reception -particularly metal sintered windscreens (which I do not know if the Yetis are fitted with or not) can block and reflect and distort the signal, plus it is possible for them to move around and slip out of position. It is best to give them an open view of the sky if you can.

@BossFox -appologies, I only just got round to doing this and wanted to double check it all works before posting up the part numbers etc.
