I tried to do the same thing a few years back Nick, got married, had a baby and thought, I'm going to get a sensible car that I can just drive without all the fuss of modifying and cleaning etc, sold my mk5 gti and got an A4 avant, after a few months, I realised that it wasn't for me, if your into cars in a big way, I don't think its possible to just walk away and be a normal Joe soap driving a mondeo, not fussing over wheels, suspension etc,

Every time I seen a nice gti, vrs, etc, I thought, I need to get something nice again. Just my 2c, as I've made the mistake in the past of selling my high spec and nicely modified gti and regretting it afterwards, your vRS is an absolute cracker, I'd think long and hard before parting with it.

I can sort one out for you, sure. They sound like standard at idle unless they decide to chatter when you let the clutch out in neutral, which does sound a bit tractory. If it does chatter and the chattering annoys you, you can just dip the pedal and let it back out and it stops. You actually subconsciously learn to let the clutch pedal out sympathetically in neutral so it doesn't happen I think. It doesn't bother me at all, particularly with how much better it drives than a DMF clutch. You can really use the torque from right low down without having to drive around that horrible juddering you get on even a healthy DMF.

Less space in my book for the B8.

I didn't like the driving position as much either; driver's footwell definitely seemed narrower to me.

OZs will be up for sale fairly soon I guess.

 

Yeah, the B8 just feels too enclosed. The foot well on all modern Audis is significantly smaller than the Mkv Golf / Mk2 Octavia. Weirdly even the 8P A3 had a worse footwell than its A5 platform stable-mates. I think the only B8 I really want is an S4, but that's going to have to go on hold for a while.

 

Yeti still seems the most likely for now. I'd like to put the Recaros in but I'd be concerned that they'd be a pain to get in and out of because of the high sides combined with a higher vehicle.

Think it's how Audi design the centre console and the approach to dash design - that's my theory anyway!

 

That's the only B8 I'd go for too. Share your approach on the Yeti too; this is getting scary

 

For the Yeti the only things that puts me off is the worse fuel economy due to the aero (or lack of!) but that's unlikely to be a noticeable issue with lower miles. Also the drop everyday boot space compared to the Octy2, although it would be a pretty handy moving vehicle with the seats down.

sorry to hear you're considering selling as per the above posts, but understand your reasons.

I have to echo Mark-Eire's comments though.. if you're a petrolhead you'll always want to tweak something and I certainly found I can't leave anything alone (can't remember the last time I had a bog standard /unmodified vehicle). Personally I'd sell the little car and keep the octy - they're great for family duties

.. however I'd love to buy your recaros ! .. I'm aware what they're worth though and i can't really justify it as I'm saving up for a new (non-skoda) project.

Can't imagine a more practical vehicle to be honest! Certainly more practical than a B8 A4, IMO..........

But I'd have to let it go as it were if I let her use it full time. The paint would get marked when she's squeezing past trees on one side and cars on the other on the lanes she goes down, the wheels would get kerbed etc, interior plastic stratched, etc. It'll drive me mad.

 

Also, the Corsa's worth less than 2k so barely worth selling it on its own.
