  • No, but stopping for fuel every twenty miles slows you down.

  • Hello! We've literally just got back to cornwall...The rs did it on the way up with 75 quids worth of fuel on a 460mile trip, so on the way back, it probably cost around 15-20 quid more... haha, we di

Gave it a good clean today inside and out. I did get really annoyed with the state of the bonnet, bumper and drivers side wing! Stone chips everywhere, I know they were bad but when I started the count them...

Took a photo of the bonnet and the rest of the car of course! Just wondering what a front respray would set me back, and if anyone else has done the same thing?

I guess thats the thing with having a dark coloured car. It looks great from far away until you walk up close, plus theres a chip on the top grill where the badge sits so I think I'll need to get a new one of those at some point too! :(

The LED rear lamps are still amazing, just thinking of LED DRL's and indicators to add to the look like some others have done.

Really need to get a lip spoiler for the car not sure which one yet!! I think some spacers and lowering it will give it a really good stance! Damn you Damo! :p

It's not just a dark coloured car Leon, mine is terrible - with white, the dirt gets into the chips and is very difficult to remove. I have until Nov-15 but will discuss with lease company on a potential respray ahead of handing it back.

I didn't know white would be bad too, but thinking about it with the dirt it must be just as bad, especially with tar kicking up on freshly pebbled roads... my biggest bugbear!

Councils cutting costs...actually thinking more into it I pay enough road tax they should be doing a good job!

Looking good Leon.

For the cost, the thing I'd do first if I were you, is swap the badges to the new ones

Amazing how a little mod like that, changes the look of the car...

Will really freshen up the look IMO

I'd also lose the horrendous tax disc holder and get a magnatax one in for now, until we dont need them anymore

Then, id beef up the tailpipes with a custom exhaust...

Then lower it...

Then lip spoiler...

Then...

lol

Hi Damo, heres my wallet!

I'd look into new badges, and then probably debadge it to tidy the back of it up with the crisper look. I'm sure you and Davey have the part numbers on your other threads. :)

New Tax disc holder is indeed needed and just ordered , plus a new windscreen! Some nice oval pipes would look pretty nice... slightly flatter than this though!

The Miltek pipes on Alan's (blue r36) passat are gorgeous

He's coupled it up to a custom exhaust, and it sounds amazing!

Would definitely be on my list if I had a V6, thats for sure.

Yep, I'll look after your money for you haha

Well I got my tax disc holder from eBay, thought a silver would match the silver trim inside and picked up Joe a red one to match the Citigo Sport :) managed to get a quote for a front end respray guaranteed for 3 years is 550 plus paint, or a full respray for 1700... to be honest I think the rest of the car can be machined which is also included in the 550 quote...

Now its to see when I can go ahead and what option I'd like to do. If it's a full respray I'd have the opportunity to change colour but I'm not sure if it's wise or not!? Most ..sorry all Superb colours are very sensible but I think a bright colour could work well on the car too. Similar to how night fire blue looked on the mk1.

I wouldn't pay that much Leon tbh

Maybe if the front end is really bad, then have that done, and the rest machine polished like you say

Could look into maybe having it protected with clear vinyl afterwards too

That Brown is a nice colour to be fair, don't ruin it by spraying it pink :D

Nah, I did toy about it but I think I'd rather keep the Mocha Brown! Is it easy enough to dot and dab and then machine all the imperfections off rather than a full respray? I'm sure I've seen some people do that.

My worry is that the colour match will look odd between the front and rear!

A good sprayer will blend it in Leon, not just stop dead at a certain panel

Yeah they said they would flick it into the next panel. Still makes me worry though!

Well, stop worrying....

Besides, if your not happy with the work, they will have to do it again

Stop Winging Leon and get it sorted

That is All............. B)

Looking dirty but a new windscreen sorted with free Bosch wipers thanks to Autoglass! Though I'm a little annoyed about the left hand wiper the fitting looks nasty. I thought it would of been a better quality fit considering their Bosch, I did read the instructions but I don't know if anyone else has had this issue? I'm glad they were free!

Anyway it's nice having no chips on the screen. Updates on the wheels after having them for about a year now, nothing major over 17000 miles there's a little bit of "white worm" but they still look good when it's all cleaned up!

Wheels looking good Leon what size tyres you have 225/35/19 or 235/35/19. How's the ride compared to the 18's

  • Author

Yeah they have aged much better than I had thought, I was worried after reading about polished rims but they seem to be fine!

The tyres are 235/35/19 the ride's fine but the tyres are a little noisier but I think it's because the tyres are cheap! The 4x4 and ESP seem to keep the car in line what ever the conditions. I do get a little anxious when I see a pot hole I can't avoid but it's been fine - I think the shocks on the superb are quite unforgiving sometimes anyway.

I've had to put buying things on hold at the moment because of plans to move and christmas etc!

Leon, those wheels are Epic

You noticed a difference in mpg. And I gather your speedo will be out just

You could've chosen a better backdrop Leon!

Haha the skip was where my old screen had been smashed up into pieces!

Speedo isn't far out because the radius is still very much the same I think. 70 still feels like 70! :)

Will you PLEASE LOWER the damn car!!! PLEASE MAN, PLEASE...

My treat  :x

Thank you

Nice alloys there. May i ask what ET does those have and how wide they are. I'm about to get 19" alloys under my superb but i'm not sure will 9 inch wide fit without it coming out from sides.

Great reading about your project Leon! Looks great. Looking forward to that lowering ;)

  • 1 month later...

Just spent an hour going all the way through this thread Leon - excellent stuff!

I have just purchased a V6 estate which was converted from new by a Skoda dealership in Switzerland called Embrach (http://www.skoda-embrach.ch/edition_superb.php - mine is the white one in the images). Only had it two weeks but it is awesome. I came from a Renault Vel Satis with the 3.5 V6 nissan 350z engine and tiptronic box and prior to that a Subaru 3.0R estate. I like the six cylinder cars  B)

Two thoughts - do lower it but just a tad to get the stance, mild handling improvement whilst retaining usability. If you want to really improve what is already quite a decent AWD chassis (IMHO) then look at a front ARB upgrade to start with. The Superb is quite a heavy car and that transference of weight under braking is noticeable.

I have ordered a K&N panel filter - surprisingly its on a standard one which is fine but personally I have always noticed an improvement with K&N on my cars...induction noise at least but also very mild bhp and mpg gains (and I mean mild)  :giggle:

That exhaust you link to half way through your postings sounds and looks divine  . Need to save for that I think (providing I can get it through the strict Swiss homolgation nonsense here). Every mod requires your car to checked at the equivalent of their `MOT`stations. I suppose thats a good thing though.

I`m trying to get the exact details of what was done to mine from new by Embrach...suffice to say 16k suisse was added to the bill from new (the original owner paid 67k chf - about £45k - new for the car  :whew: ). Its had KW springs and shocks, ARBs (not sure which), 19" Japanese alloys of some kind, subtle body kit additions (those rear arch `ears` are just quirky...?) plus lots of other internal bits and bobs (TV tuner, integrated sun blinds, leather/alcantara seats, 4 heated seats, flappy paddles, sports steering wheel, false boot floor and all the luggage fixing rails and gubbings, pano roof, 6 cd changer, stereo upgrade speakers and power amp and other stuff I`m discovering as I go).

Anyway, a photo or two below showing it on its summer 19" rims  (photos of it on its current 17" winter ones are elsewhere on this forum - just do a quick search by my name Wile7).  Look forward to your continued updates Leon.

Dave
