My V6 Twindoor!

Featured Replies

Are they the genuine ones from Skoda then? Thanks for the price!

Hmmm, to be honest I'm not quite sure.

There are two versions - almost identical versions.

The one's fitted to the UK L&K Superb's are E-Marked (and thus legal for use in the UK). When I bought mine the only source for these were UK main dealers. For the full set (4x clusters) it was approx. £350 and they'd still needed resistors to prevent the blown-bulb warning. Genuine parts from EU online retailers (Germany & Czech Republic) are now much more readily available but still pricey.

Then there were the Chinese sourced sets. The Superb Twindoor in China comes with the LED rear clusters as standard, they aren't E-Marked but do appear to be identical in every other aspect.

I figured before buying that Skoda wouldn't tool-up and manufacture two different sets for two different global markets, they'd just fit the E-Marked lights to the Asian spec cars. Seems I was wrong. The clusters fitted to the Chinese Superbs are made in China, whereas the clusters fitted to the UK cars are manufactured in Europe.

Are mine genuine? Who knows. If not then the supplier went to great efforts to mirror the genuine items (quality-check labels with initials, protective film over the lenses, cardboard supports fitted to the shape of the lights, VW Shanghai branded box and tape, good quality bulbs fitted etc.) but then this is where the Chinese excel!

The quality is good, the price made their purchase possible (£200 delivered) and they've worked faultlessly (on 1.5 hours each way on my daily commute five days a week for the last four months). I bought them on Alibaba and there are plenty of sellers who have them available. Will an MOT tester check for the E-Mark? May be if the lights looked obviously aftermarket then quite likely, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say I'll not have any issues at all come test time.

As mentioned on the PM the lower horizontal layer of LED's is on brake light brightness when the tail lights are on. This sounds worse than it is, the single row of brighter LED's doesn't actually stand out over and above the two lines of remaining LED's (see the picture on my earlier post).

Is this a result of the light's being incorrectly wired (counterfeit) or down to the fact that the car isn't coded for LED's? Again who know's, but a guy on the Octavia forum fitted genuine LED clusters to his vRS hatch and had similar results.

After following other Superb's on the road I wouldn't go back to incandescent clusters now, they look so bland and boring and the brake lights are actually pretty dim on the Twindoor. But then I like all things lighting related :giggle:

Hello,

It's been a while since any updates for the v6! :)

It's still quick! I've done about 9000 miles since buying it back in August 2013! The wheels are still looking great. Few bugs I've come across is something with the DSG/ Engine?

If I' in D/P and I've come to a stand-still with the engine on idle it'll start a rubberish knocking, if I release the foot brake or I rev it a little it will stop. I don't think it's the engine itself but something linking the engine to the box? It's completely standard and it's been doing it for about 500-1000 miles.

Next issue is probably stone chips! I do quite a bit of driving on the A30, I stay back from others but still get attacked! nothing I can do about that really! Although the grill has a lovely chip on it. Time to get a new one at the end of the month! :)

I've also noticed the front light washers have never worked I'm guessing that I will need a laptop of some sort to re activate them again?

I just hope this knocking noise isn't serious!

Still loving it though, not looked at anything to buy yet. :)

Maybe check the fuse box, to deactivate your headlight washers you just have to pull a fuse, re-insert it to get them to work again. If they have been disabled using VCDS then yes, it's a coding job.

Great looking car!

Or the fuse could have popped. It's been known to happen (to main wipers too) if it's cold and there isn't the correct dilution in the washer fluid tank. If it's frozen or stuck, the motor will still operate, there won't be any fluid to apply and the fuse pops.

Or yes Leon, could have been disabled/altered with VCDS.

Still not had a chance to get anyone down here in the south west to check with VCD's might be able to make it to Castle Combe at the end of April. :)

Gave the car a good wash when I bought my Autoglym stuff from halfords, I was really chuffed with it. Washed it with Autoglym shampoo, then high resin polish, followed by extra gloss protection.

I thought as it was still light this evening I'd go out and take a few photos then it started to rain! :( But still really chuffed with my car I've done over 10000 miles since August and still chuffed.

I've got no idea why some of the photo's have ended up having a green or blue tint!! I think it's Google+ formatting them slightly differently to what my phone and mac sees!

Beautiful car.  The wheels are amongst the best I've ever seen.

Lookin' good Leon. Glad you're still pleased [emoji2]

Yeah still pleased Steve :)

Just getting itchy feet, seen some H&R springs that drop it by 40mm however I've not really seen anyone comment on lowering their superb. Do you think it'll be similar to how the standard Octavia vRS tackles the road?

The Superb does handle pretty well for a 2 ton tank!

Thanks. I'm glad I bought it!

Dont think that you can go lower than 30mm due to the arb breaking

A 40mm drop with just springs always sounds like too much to me anyway.

I'd look at what some Eibach ProKit springs would do, if they're available of course. I'd talk to Damian at DPM Performance, or someone similar who knows the ranges and can advise accordingly.

There's was only H&R springs available when Damian looked for me too! Talk about lack of choice when buying a v6. Damn!

Ah well. Always going to be an issue on this type of car - less availability of mods....

H&R make decent stuff, so I'd have no issue with the quality.

Just wondering if the V6 sits any lower than the rest of the Superb range? A bit like when they reference a drop on the Octy, if you have a vRS you're already 15mm lower, So the overall drop for a 30mm lowering spring is effectively 15mm, if that makes sense?

I don't think it does... maybe we can compare when it comes to Castle Combe! it's 4x4 but I don't know if it has been raised like the Octy 4x4?

I think a set of springs will have it looking awesome mate :)

Nice motor, and all needs is a bit lower

Just gotta wait and see, depends on how much work want me to drive to random places if I lower it or not. I almost bottomed out the Octy a few times last year!

I do want to lower it though! Maybe in the next month or so it depends!

Sun is shining... microfibers are washed... it's time to clean!! I'm rather envious over Damo's pipes!

I didn't get time to buy it today!! I tried to attempt it with Autoglym metal polish it did the outside bits but I don't get how you cleaned the inners of the pipe so well?! That stuff must be pretty strong if it can clean it up like you have in the photo!

Today we started at 10am, and I've just finished! we didn't even get to do the inside. Washed, Clay, Washed, Polish, Wax, Seal, Tyres, Pipes, and black trim dressing.

I'm shattered, my mates Bora needed a good going over too so we managed to help each other out. Didn't take any photos because my phone was flat.

Pretty much what I do when I go to town on cleaning the car.

Only difference is I seal then wax.

We need to see a pic of this immaculate Superb v6!
