Tempted to try these tyres. Need 2 to replace my Michelin alpin's after my day with Don. :)

SWMBO has the Goodyear ultra grip 8's on the Beetle and runs on them all year. Great tyres.

The pant job looks great BTW!

Lovely.

Remember to take the paint back out of the Wheel Bolt seating.

(best to mask that area before painting and lacquering, but too late now.)

What's the reasoning behind this?

After the wheels are fitted, the paint wears away and the wheels aren't secured tightly as you first thought.

Same applies with powder coating. I've had wheels nuts come loose due to this before, only when competing on motorsport events mind, never with road driving.

Here are the threads

Usually with paint you can just tighten up the bolts or nuts, then remove again and clean up and remove the paint at the seating.

Re Lacquering,

Depending on the Paint & Lacquer being used,

its quite usual to apply a final Colour Coat thin and then a lacquer coat on when wet and let flash off,

then lacquer straight away.

But it is dependent on the products being used. a up to those painting.

I'm similar, but the opposite. This year I will need to replace my Goodyear Ultragrips. I'm tempted either with Pirellis or those Michilin Alpin A4s.

BTW, in that size (the size I want), they will be Ultragrip GW-3s not Ultragrip 8s.

hang on...

looks like Ultragrip 8s have been superceded by GW-3's in 205/45/16 size now, Dave.

I shudda clicked 'view new content' :D

The tread patten is slightly different between them both.

My Ultragrip GW-3s (205/45 16) vs Ultragrip 8s (205/55 16)

However they have been perfectly good for the last 2 winters I've had them. My father loves the Ultragrip 8s and has had no trouble in the snow with them (4wd helps too!).

yup ,the one on the left is mine! lol...

Have you sprayed the inner rim as well, or just sprayed through from the outside?

jusr sprayed through from the outside, as on most of my alloys the inner rim is so dirty you couldn't tell what colour it is anyway ;)
