VRS Winter Wheel Sizes

Featured Replies

I'm struggling to find the necessary rims.

Can you use VW Transporter rims with say specs of: 17 x J7.5 & Offset (ET?) = 45, a centre bore of 55-57 mm

The ratings look ok 225/40/R18 so you'll be fine. Obviously they won't look anything like that picture. :)

Dear Mr ****

Thank you for your email dated 30 September 2013, regarding winter tyres and wheels for the ŠKODA Octavia vRS 2.0 TSI 220PS.

Please find the tyre and wheel combination that is permissible for this vehicle below.

225/45 R17 91W - 7.5J x17

205/50 R17 89W - 6 J x 17

I can confirm that you would need to fit four identical wheels or tyres to make this vehicle legal for the road.

If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to call me on 08457 745 745.

Thank you again for contacting ŠKODA Customer Services.

Kind regards

Now I've spent most of two days (when the time allows) to find alloy wheels with ET of 45-51 (ET 51 is what the dealer showed me to be the correct one) and I can't find any that matches what's been posted before with ET 49.

What I have found is a nice set of Wolfrace wheels which look a tad similar to the former Neptune wheels (not cheap at £400 delivered), but they are an ET 45, the question I now ask is can I safely use/insert 5mm wheel spacers to ensure that I get the required distance?

Are you sure that SUK have the correct wheel sizes? The 225/45 R17 wheels should be fitted to 7.0J x 17 OEM wheels according to the winter tyre info here in Germany. Obviously 7.5J are not a problem, just need to change offset.

That's what I got from SUK customer services.

Maybe someone who has full access to EKTA can tell me with 100% accuracy, but I'm going on what that email has said, which sort of contradicts the information at the top.

I want to fit the Continental WinterContact TS 850 225/45 R17 94V to the rims as I believe these to be the best winter tyres around at the moment.

I'll post link to EKTA and accessories brochure when I get in.

Bridgestone Blizzark LM-32 tyres getting excellent reviews here too. If on estate try to get XL (extre load) versions.

On the normal Octavia 225/45 R17 7.0J x 17 is the correct size.

On the vRS the correct size is 225/45 R17 7.5Jx17.

18" Turini or 17" Crystal wheels are those recommended for the VRS in Germany if using OEM wheels - not been to the dealer recently so this may well have changed (again).

However, I'll probably go for the non-OEM alloy route with some 7,5J x 17 ET45 Wheels - TEC AS1

Those non oem wheels look nice. Do you have a link.

I'm hoping to find some Wolfrace GB DH wheels, they look similar to the old Neptune ones.

If you are having trouble locating suitable wheels I've found that if you enter VW Golf Mk6 - 17" and select 225/45 R17 you can usually find something suitable.

I'm still not sure whether an ET 45 wheel will get clear of the calipers or not, so have a look on Ebay & you can find wheel spacers in varying sizes, just make sure that you select a universal one with 5x112 as one of the sizes & you can usually find them in 3, 5, 6. 10 mm thickness's.

Using them should ensure that you will get sufficient  clearance.

I didn't really choose the wheel for it's looks. It was:

1. Not too expensive - €100 ish per wheel

2. Simple design, so easy to clean

3. One of the few non-OEM wheels that the tyre salesman ththew will fit without adjustment / spacer. The details were put into the calculator and unlike many of the online databases the Octy III RS details were there. Proof will be in the fitting I guess - I want fitment without spacers or the wheels will go back. Pick up the car in a couple of weeks so will update once completed.

In terms of the link, the picture was from a site advertising a different size I'm afraid.

Will the 17in wheels from the elegance fit the vRS?

I find them (mytyres as that's just the German equivalent) quite expensive.

Winter wheels / tyres now fitted. 7.5J x 17 ET40 Dezent TD Dark (black) with 225/45/R17 94V XL Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32. A good 3mm of space between the calliper and the rim.

Edited by Black_Sheep

How about the ET, isn't the wheel coming a bit too much to the outside?

Well the ET for a standard 18" wheel is (apparently) ET 51, the rims I have are ET 50, I would like more clearance than 3mm between the wheel & the calipers, something like 5-10mm would be more comfortable in my mind.

Just got to get my tyres fitted & balanced in the next few days.

Not too much further than stock. Was matched against Tüv database for sizes to fit to vehicle and have the paperwork to keep the local police off my back. Looks clear of the arches but l doubt that I would be able to fit snow chains - I think this is why I was given the the 7J x 17 size initially by Skoda.

I'm now starting to wonder if the H rated ones will be OK for the vRS, I most certainly hope so.

Well, I asked since the recommended ET is 51, so 40 quite some way off. I'm glad it's still ok though, it's a good guide for us guys/gals who haven't got winter wheels yet.

@TheWanderer, unless you plan on going faster than 210km/h in winter time, H should be just fine.

Speed rating H is fine - it is what they were trying to sell me. Only had an issue once in uk where insurance wouldn't allow me to fit a lower speed rating than oem, even though they were winters. I was more worried about getting XL (extra load) due to the fact that most journeys are 1000 km with fully loaded estate car - most of the XL tyres just happen to be V rated.

Thanks Black_Sheep. And phew! :whew:

I just called my insurer to check that the H-rated tyre are OK for use on the vRS and they said that's fine, it'll just be noted on the policy, when I put them on.

Feel much happier now.
