After 6 months of ownership it's finally happened!

Featured Replies

Driving along quite happy and a car driving the other way flashed me repeatedly for as I can only presume for my DRL's!

Do these people live under rocks???

He might have twigged you were a fellow Briskoda member  :)

I wish that was the case, yet to see a fellow member :-( well one displaying the Brisky logo anyway :-)

Unless we are letting Vauxhall owners in?? :-p

Unless we are letting Vauxhall owners in?? :-p

I'm afraid that it's worse than that :)

I get it all the time, or when following someone they turn their rear fog light on.

Its always a fun conversation at the traffic lights explaining they are DRL's and infact they are a d*ckhead. :)

Waiting for this to happen to me!! :D

On a side note.. I work with a guy who's a member here!, but he lurks in the Fabia I section.

Strange we used to get this all the time with the previous Elegance trim but not noticed it since changing to the Monte :wonder:

I used to pass some **** in a modeo that would do it everyday, despite the fact on several occasions there were audis infront with drls on aswe... Some strange people on the roads these days

I think it is because the Fabia has its DLR LEDs in a small round cluster rather than a line of lights like most other cars.

I see the Volvos regularly that have the identical DRL units as the vRS, also very annoying in how bright they are..

This week was the first of seeing 2 different new Porsche with exactly the same Units.

They really work OK as DRLs if you just switch on as Sidelights, they are bright enough without annoying other drivers,

& nobody bothers that the Tail lights are also on.

(I think the embarrassing thing is how bright the standard sidelights are when on with dipped beam at night,

even just in Rain or slightly poor visibility during the day when others think you have fog lights on.

that really seams to wind up other drivers.)

I had a white corsa van or similar do this several times when our commutes seemed to cross on the same road in the winter. I'm assuming he thought I was a foglight ****er as the sidelights stay on with dipped and are in the traditional foglight position. It's happened a few other times too.

I have the DRL's switched off, I've noticed they are very bright when I've seen another VRS on the road, and do just look like foglights being on.

DRL's are here to stay.

DRL's that look like foglights are a fact of everyday life out on the roads.

DRL's during the day are far less bright than dipped headlights at night.

Genuine incorrect use of foglights doesn't wind people up because they dazzle, its the very fact that they are on when they shouldn't be that people object to.

There is no cure for stupid, keep calm and carry on!

Which other car that you have seen has Sidelights as bright as a Mk2 vRS,

in the position the vRS ones are or in any other position?

'Sidelights' that look like you have on 'spot lights or fogs' at night because of their position when you have on 'dipped headlights' are  not so common, which is the point about the Dual unit on the vRS,

DRLs Daytime,

which are fine because you can switch them off,

but then become the sidelights less bright when sidelights, yet still piercing..

(and the fact that the car they are on comes without Front Fog lights standard or even as an option for use in actual fog is the bugging thing.

A car first released in 2010.)

The new Clio has the worst positioned and brightest drls I've seen so far. I haven't passed one at night yet.

Not round though, so it really needs the out of touch to not know they are DRLs.

& should not be on at night if the headlights are on.

It doesnt matter what shape they are. It must be a slight hint to motorists that more and more cars have these new fangled inventions. I think DRLs are a great idea. I wonder what your insurance company will say if you have an accident and they're turned off? My car has them and they will remain on, as per the law. People should keep upto date with the Highway Code.

al

There is no such Law in the UK that you must use DRL's if they are fitted.

Not sure where you are finding mention in the Highway Code about having DRL's coming on automatically during the Daytime.

An example below of why its important that Drivers and road users should understand the UK Highway Code and UK Road Traffic Law and look at their lights understand their use,

During poor visibility or weather it would be time to 'light up front and rear' and not only have on dazzling 'Daytime Running Lights' showing to the front only.

and maybe just careful or aware of how they are to others when they use them, or get them adjusted so that they do not confuse or cause problems to other road user, not just car drivers.

http://www.dadrl.org.uk/lawhiwaycode.html

They (Insurance Underwriters) will say nothing, exactly as at a MOT, no need in the UK to have DRL's on.

Only that manufacturers of vehicles Type Approved in the EU after February 2011 must have them fitted as standard.

*Of the 2000 vRS in the UK some have been stopped by the Police for driving with Spot or Fog lights on when visibility was not requiring Fog Lights.

Amazing that Driving Professionals like Police Officers can be thinking that these Standard Fitted lights might be something they are not*

Nobody is saying switch them off, its your free choice,

the comments on them really relate to the Style of the Dual unit fitted to the mk2 vRS.

Very bright DRL's are just par for the course these days,

But confusing & then sometimes annoying to other drivers as Sidelights even when less bright is not so good..

(that is in the Highway code re sidelights use, headlights, fog lights and the 'Parking Lights.),

If Skoda had safety concerns they would not have fitted Chav type lights (LED DRL's) to a Warm Hatch, before required by EU legistlation, (Fabia Type Approved 2007, vRS released 2010, no Fitting of DRL's required)

but with Safety foremost, fitted proper Front Fog lights, that is.

rather than just saying in Brochures and press releases and on Configurators that the car had Front Fog Lights.

Many buyers asked about Fog Lights and were told the car had them, Salespeople arque the fact.

Most do not go into the Demonstrator and check though.

Some Used Car Sales leaflets in Skoda Dealerships still say Front Fog lights.

No. They are just clueless idiots and I am surprised at the number of them as I read here. I don't know if there are less LED DRL equipped cars in the UK (wouldn't think so) and so people in 2013 are not yet used to what the heck these lights are there for, but in my two years with the car I've never been flashed by anyone for that reason nor have I seen this happening to anybody else running LEDs really (I'd say roughly 1 out of 4-5 cars ). So reading this is a frequent thing there is quite surprising (and frustrating!). I doubt I would be calm enough to explain that moron what these lights are if I had been flashed repeatedly in a "law-enforcing" style. Turning rear fog light on as a response??? I can't even imagine that...

Also, brightness of the vRS's LEDS is also fine. Not brighter than Audis, Volvos, Mercs  or any other car's. The thing is LEDs are generally quite bright and have a different kind of light than traditional headlights but that's nowhere near an excuse to flash people that are just driving their car the way it was meant to be driven.

Can I put a blue filter to tone in down or perhaps Skoda green?

Suits you sir in Green, Doctor lol-lol on call. sounds good.

Side lights, dipped headlights, main beam, DRL's, xenon's, fog lights, cornering lights, LED headlights, bi-xenon etc. etc.

I've only ever been dazzled by two of the above...

1) Poorly adjusted dipped headlights.

2) Main beam not turned off in time.

Both at night.

I doubt it would be a problem if Skoda *had* fitted LED's rather than standard filament bulbs.

Skoda did fit 'LED Daylight Running Lights' to mk2 vRS, to quote them.

('Daytime Running Lights' as known everywhere else)

and these LED units operate with less brightness as the Sidelights, and a single front one on as the Parking Light using the Sidelight brightness.

i did a test in my mk1 octy a year ago as the fogs are mounted in the light cluster ....no1 ever flashed me day or night or put rear fogs on
