Replacing the clutch ... anything else while i'm at it?

Featured Replies

Hi all

So after 100k km the clutch has begun to slip on my 2002 1.4mpi. I'm replacing it and was wondering - is there anything else I should get replaced / done as long as the gear is dismanteled? I have heard replacing the back oil seal is recommended. anything else?

Waterpump i think

/\ eh? What's the water pump got to do with the clutch?

Just the clutch kit will be fine. And mounting bolts.

Clutch slave cylinder too.

Pmsl waterpump

Slave cylinder is external so no need to change.

I normaly get a three piece clutch with bearing.

Flywheel would be the other thing to change if needed.

Make sure the friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing are all changed, inspect the flywheel by all means but I suspect that even the terrifying chassis-twisting torque of the 1.4 MPi will not have affected it, change the oil seals if there's any sign of leakage and change the gearbox oil if it's been leaking, otherwise leave well alone.

Edit: If you're getting the work done make sure you ask for the old parts back, that way you know they've changed the lot.

That's only the six speed box (not just diesels).
