Dog guard-gate

Featured Replies

I am about to take delivery of an Octavia III 1.6 diesel elegance estate on Sunday morning.

I specified a dog guard from the very beginning of the order process. Ideally the net partition as shown in the owners manual would have been the best option. My car is now at the dealer and there are no fittings for the net partition.

They are offering me a Skoda dog guard official accessory. This means drilling holes in the roof lining of the car and I am not very keen on that idea.

Does anyone have the Skoda official dog guard accessory? Is the drilling and fitting process something that damages the car in a way that looks bad or would reduce the resale value.? How easy is it to remove and refit when you want to convert back to full size estate mode? Does it work well / rattle etc?

Thanks.

Drilling holes in the car?!?!??!? Why do they drill holes now? The mk 1 you can put in/take out no probs and def no holes! I will be a bit ****ed if this truly is the case with the mk 3 dog guard. I need one but I dont be happy if they have to drill holes!!!

My mk 1 fits behind the seats onto a metal thing then it has rubber protectors and sits up against the frame of the side of the car. I am explaining this SO crap will try and take a couple of photos. BTW it doesnt rattle at all.

I was 100% expecting the same set up just a different design to go with different shape!

Thank you LadyVienna. Really appreciate your experience and comments. Photos very helpful

Has anyone else got any experience of this or maybe after market alternatives?

If your dogs are strong or large do not get universal pressure fitted ones (like from Argos or halfords) they aren't secure no matter how tight you put them they either break or the dogs can move them.

This version takes 2mins to take out or put in.

Popped into my local dealer today to have a chat about the dog guard. The previous versions have required drilling etc to fit the guards. However they think the mk 3 one may not as the fitting time shown on them is 0.8 hours and when drilling etc it is about 3 hours. So fingers crossed skoda have used some intelligence and gone with a style more like my old one which is easy fit and quick to take out! Oh and price inc fitting is suggested at £150.00

Thank you again for taking the time to look into this.  I am very grateful.  I will get back to my dealer with this information and let you know.

Interesting. My dealer told me that the dog guard, or trunk grille as its known, is not yet available to order. Part number is 5E9 071 159 (taken from attached brochure). That was last Friday. A phone call me thinks...

I am new to this group and my experience so far is of people who are willing to go the extra mile (or kilometer) to help.  I am feeling much gratitude and will be happy to help others if I can in the future.

Thank you.

IIRC when my Dad enquired about a dog guard for his yeti, the dealer said that it required quite a bit if work to fit, including fixing mountings in the roof. Perhaps a yeti owner can confirm? The picture I saw of the Mk III dog guard also seems to show some high level fixings. It certainly didn't look as straightforward as the Mk II Octy. That was easy and about a 10 minute job, if that.

Sarge.

Ooh Sarge where did you see a photo of the mk3 dog guard? I'd be very interested to see it please?

Page 9 of attached brochure. Can see from the picture there are roof mounts of some description.octavia-1.pdf

Try this...

That one worked thanks. So looks like it attached to the ceiling or something then? I really dont understand why they changed the original design (which I have) which is perfectly spot on :(

wonder if my current one will fit in the new one....... i know probably no chance but I can hope lol

I picked up my Octavia Elegance 1.6TDi estate up today. Lots of toys and gadgets and really enjoying it.

I saw the unfitted dog guard in the garage and agreed for them to fit it tomorrow.

It requires drilling into the roof and boot sides. The fittings look professional and will have black plastic finger screws to loosen the guard if it needs taking out. If I were oderering the car again now I would specify the Net Partition but this was not even mentioned as an option.

However, this looks like a good 2nd option. I will take some pics tomorrow (or as soon as it is fitted). I will also tell you how easy it is to get the guard in and out. When I sell the car in a few years I will leave the guard in it as it will be custom fitted to the car.

Glad you're enjoying the new car Philclo (err PICS?!) but cant say im not disappointed to hear it has to be drilled :(

Official Skoda Octavia III accessory dog guard drilled and fitted.  It is a very professional job and all my fears about drilling or looking 2nd rate have been overcome.  Is is a quality job and quality installation.  Sturdy and no rattles.

It will take a minute or two to take out and put in but that is fine.

I got the dog guard fitted too, and I can agree with Philclo, it looks and works fine! Tested it with two golden retrievers and they did not get past it...

Pics please?

Yes...pics please...(including Goldens if possible)....we've just ordered a VRs estate as a dog wagon for our pair

Same here..... I'd be interested to see this as I have also ordered an Octy 3 VRS estate for the pouch.

Mrs Mozz has a Freelander 2, and we bought an after market jobby from Halfrauds. It was about £50 and fits perfectly. Doesn't rattle, no drilling required and very sturdy.

Cheers,

Mozz

Im going to go with a custom one from travall (online retailer) as the guard doesnt require any drilling etc and is a more similar design to my current dog guard which has never provided me any issues with rattling etc. Sturdy as a rock too. No matter how good the skoda one is I just dont want my brand new car to have to be drilled lol.
