VCDS - where to buy from, whay do i need?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im really interested in getting a VCDS set up to tweek a few things on my new car.

What do i need to be buying? I found the cable on ebay for about 25 quid but surely i need software on my laptop aswell?? Where can i get this from?

Is it easy to use? Self explanitory?

All the help welcome on this please.

Thanks

25 Quid on eBay it's fake you won't get any help from here if you buy that and you run the risk of plugging software thats been messed around with into your pride and joy that can do god knows what to it.

Have a look at someone like GENDAN if you want a genuine copy of VCDS, it's pricey but you'll get a warm glowing feeling inside for buying and supporting a quality product.

Ok thanks. Reading the add it was just for the cable it didnt mention anything about software.

What do you mean by have a look at someone like 'gendan' ??

Thanks

Gendan are one of the official UK VCDS dealers, current price for a VCDS cable is £208 for Micro-can as your car needs a canbus compatible cable.

Is it easy and self explanatory to use? Yes and No its easy to get setup and use but you need to read up on what you want to do and make sure you save, double and triple save everything before you change a setting.  Let's see if we can get a mod to move this to the VCDS section as you'll get more help there

This is the usual "does all" VCDS package yes.  This is the rough price you will pay.  Mine came from Ilexa in Truro (ilexa.co.uk I think).

That one will do all the models pre 2004 as well, the one i linked to will do anything thats can bus based so post 2004

Didnt know such a section existed lol sorry.

The initial outlay might seem expensive but it's worth it. Most dealers where I live will charge between roughly £35-60 just to diagnose a fault with this type of kit then the added cost of the repair and this obviously doesn't include the fuel and time costs of having to go to them, just think of being able to do this on your own driveway and other things you may want/need to do!

Got my from Gendan, a no hassle purchase and fair price.

Hi,

Do you mean this will work on any make of car or any VAG car?

I dont think the price is that much. Considering what you can actually do with it! All the tweaks that are possible, fault finding etc etc!

Now...how do i get this one past the wife.....

Yes I meant any VAG car. You may also be able to do basic OBDII on other cars, it works on the Vectra C for example.

Got to figure out what is in it for her and present in that manner...

Less time at the repair shop?  Some convenience she would like to have turned on?  Just trying to help you out!

But as the man of the family who wants to control his destiny, VCDS usually pays for itself within three services performed by you instead of a dealer.

In theory I've paid for mine with three diagnoses this year, once on my Octy, and on my Dad's A3 twice. Although to be fair my Dad hasn't paid me!! Maybe he should cover my wheel refurb .... ha

I was just going through the service history for my Fabia.

The previous owner sent the car to the dealer for an intermittent EML light. The dealer plugged it in, and read the stored code, which was for a sticking intake manifold valve flap. They took the intake pipe off and cleaned it with brake cleaner, and cleared the fault code.

They charged her £139. Over half the price of my VCDS cable.......mine has easily paid for itself in only 9 months of ownership.
