Hopefully just cosmetic but a right PITA.

Driver did the honest thing and left a note and is willing to pay for the damage. Off to the bodyshop tomorrow or Monday if they're shut for the weekend. No idea if it's a chip and scratch or a respray needed. Quite a lot of scratching down to the plastic.

That's a shame at least they did the right thing ! Getting done properly though

Not many would have let a note.

No, I really didn't expect it.

Accidents happen but at least there are still some honest people out there that will leave their details for you. It would still **** me off if it happened to my car but not as much as if they had just driven off.

How much damage exactly? Can see broken glass but any bodywork damage?

At first glance just appears to be the bumper. Lens is well broken as you can see and some of the paint is down to the plastic along the edges it's not cracked at least.

Metalwork appears to be untouched so no rust worries.

After previous trouble (not my fault then either) I at least know of a reliable bodyshop in the area. Not sure if they're open on sat.

I came back to mine in asda once to find my pressed plate dented and scratched. Consider yourself lucky to have a note, I hope they cough up

Nice to see they left a note, wish more people were like that.

I feel your pain! Too many careless self absorbed people around in this day and age.

Down to coachworks today. Reckoning is just shy of £300. Mainly paint and labour for respraying the rear bumper + £14 for the lense.

TBH I thought a respray would be more. It's not the cheapest place but they do it properly.

Fingers crossed she doesn't dissapear into the aether, although I do have her address now.

Get the money upfront before you get the respray done.

Someone I know had a bump and the culprit said they'd pay for damage after it was done with proof of cost labour etc

My friend was way too trusting, they didn't pay a penny!

Definitely. SWMBO keeps says "don't be too hard on her she said she'll pay".

and my take it that she hasn't paid anything yet and if she doesn't then that £300 is my bill.

Sorry to see this.

It gets more of a worry all the time leaving cars parked. Parking dirty beat up ones tend to keep others away from coming close to you.

Rip off Insurance Companies are not helping.

This story was on Radio 4 Money Box only yesterday.

Saw the chap doing a slot on breakfast last week. Ins companies basically punishing people for being honest. But it was nothing new to me. I've known for year to avoid telling the ins companies anything if you can possibly help it.

Tactical parking is the only way.

Right down the bottom of the car park, dumped across two spaces like you don't give a f**k.

That or drive a wreck daily and save the good stuff for special occassions.

I now also need to consider the road topology since she claims she forgot the handbrake and her car rolled across the carpark into mine.

I'm parked uphill today.

Lucky I was lazy and didn't reverse in she'd have got the headlight maybe.

At least you were left a note - Our Octy got done a couple of weeks ago in Sainsbury's car park and no note left - rear corner of bumber badly scratched and possibly clips etc. broken (still to be ascertained).  It's currently pending the outcome of the Police going through CCVT records so I'm not holdiung my breath...

I never understand reversing into a supermarket car park space? How do you get the shopping in the boot?

While we were in France someone has scraped something - trolley maybe, or a bag - all down the drivers side from the rear wing to the front door. Luckily my car is not my pride and joy and it looks like a polish might sort it, but even so, still annoying.

At what point after you start scraping the car do you realise and move the scraping object away from the car? Seemingly you don't - you just carry right on scraping all the way along the side. The mind boggles

How stupid are some that push the trolley passed the car door, then open the car door and the trolley is now the wrong side of the door.

Then they try to  squeeze the trolley passed.

Some spot the error, then close the door. Move the trolley, then can not get the door open.

I can understand that once or twice you might do that, then you remember ever after.

I take my mother shopping, as she return, like a gentleman i get out  'Double quick'

and open the rear door for her shopping.

Saves me and everyone else paint & bodywork damage.

88 years old and she has still not sussed it out

It wasn't a supermarket this time. P & R scheme. I suspect they think there is CCTV, there used to be but it's gone.

Phoned today they wanted the work to be done first then pay. 'Nope' says I. told them they can pay the bodyshop direct if they like, I don't care.

I know this guy is decent because he sorted out the crap job the insurer did 3yr ago.

Seems a reasonable quote to me, I had a some work done on mine last year, less damage than you but twice the price!

Definitely get them to pay first, show them the written quote if necessary. Just need to be careful with the bodyshop, if you agree with the TP for them to pay direct, what happens if they don't and he won't release the car to you?

  • Author

I want any payment to the bodyshop to be cleared. So if it's a cheque they should have the money before doing the work.

Fingers still crossed it's going ok.

We had a guy reverse into us back in 2007 in my old car - we were sitting in the car at the time as we were away camping and out for the day, eating a sandwich, when the car moved - he got out and started to walk away, leaving his car parked up against ours! - We jumped out, and called him back - Fortunately, he had reversed his car, into our tow bar - he he! - he said he didn't even realise!

Hope this all goes Ok and good to see that people do leave a note at times.

Al.
