Oh no!

Featured Replies

Was dropping a customer off at her house early on today and when I started pulling away a beep started, I looked at the dash and the EML was on! Scary stuff, just came back home and turned the car off, don't want to drive it anywhere in case I do any more damage, so I am thinking of getting it recovered into Henry's skoda Glasgow tomorrow morning and get them to fix it, it's a twin door 62 plate s spec 1.6 TDI CR hope its nothing serious

`EML`?

Only 25,000 miles what do you do all day???

Seriously though all those short runs could have partialy blocked the dpf or the sensore has packed in

My DPF failed at 9,000 miles, garage said you can still drive it with no damage to engine but would fail an MOT test.

Think the bloke at your garage may be on drugs! What was the problem and what did they do?

Possibly a sensor too, I had to ask my garage twice to look at it, because...

For me, the eml didn't come on the following day, despite an RAC report describing the issue from the day before.

Couldn't get it into Henry's skoda Glasgow, so it's now going to parks skoda Hamilton, took it there went for some tea, came back and they have found the problem, a faulty EGR vaulve, not good, they cleared the fault codes but the guy said the EML will probably come back on, it's booked in for Thursday first thing, 6 hour job apparently, guy said allot of the engine need taking off to get to it, is the egr near the exhaust manifold then?

Also was told it was a 5 hour job, and allot of parts need removing to get to th egr, it's getting sorted under warranty, and by the way for warranty work would a vw, seat or Audi garage do it too?

I was told by a Skoda mechanic that the driveshaft has to come off to remove the EGR valve.

It now is water cooled, and is expensive, he said.

I was told not...because, for some reason, they were not able to reclaim the money spent from Skoda.

I would have thought that as it has the same engine as what's in an Octy, it sits near the top of the engine, about a half hour job to change, thats all it took my mech to change mine on my Octy

I think it's changed with the CR install, probably to do with reducing emissions. I've replaced one on the PD, it's simple.

The Skoda techie said he'd only replaced 2 so far, so not common (yet), but that as it comes with an integral intercooler jobbie, the removal is more complicated as access is difficult. When he said about the driveshaft, I thought he was joking, he wasn't.

I think all the CRs are similar: I was thumbing a Scirocco brochure the other week and they'd actually mentioned 'water-cooled EGR valve' (or similar) in all the diesel engines' technical features.

Not sure why prospective Scirocco buyers would care that much about EGRs......

Yeah that's the 1.9 PD.

All the CRs are a pig of a Job.

Well it's going in 1st thing tomorrow morning, I wanted to to Glasgow skoda, phoned them and they said that they couldn't get the car in until next wedensday, they said there customers are important to them, am I not a customer, I bought the car from the got it serviced there too, so I am going to trust parks again after a few bad run ins, bad rude salesmen, faulty repairs to previous skodas. (Over tightend brake shoes on my 55 plate Octavia and wrecked the shoes and the inside if the drum and then refused to take liability for it so I had to pay for new shoes and drums) hope their service has improved

Location and complexity of that EGR looks like trouble, given how easily EGRs can get gunked up.

Could it be blanked off, and dialed out with Vag com????????

Car went in at 09:00 this morning, guy said expect it back at 14:00 or there abouts, so at 2 get a call, cars ready been tested and is back to normal, when I went back was told if it wasn't under warranty it would be £30 an hour labour and £200 for the part so at least it's sorted and back to normal, and they even washed it before I got it back

This is one of the reasons why, after a 3 year flirtation with a diesel (a used Saab 9-3), I went back to petrol when I bought the Superb.  The EGR valve went on the Saab on the very first day I picked it up so it was still under warranty, but the "limp mode" it went into was frightening - the car could barely move and I was nearly hoovered up by the passing traffic as I frantically rode (and burned) the clutch.

After that experience, I bought a used valve on Ebay and kept it in the boot - at least it was in an accessible place in the Saab's engine bay and could - in extremis - have been replaced at the roadside.
