Audience to Columbus coding

Featured Replies

One of our newer members, b4kyk, has asked me to help coding his 06 Octavia as he is fitting a Columbus HU instead of the Audience.

Whilst I have the full genuine HEX-CAN USB VCDS I have only used it to code DRLs, Cornering Fogs, MPG corrections etc.

b4yky has purchased a 1Z0035680A - Head Unit and a 7N0907530C - Gateway

Before I start could somebody please confirm this procedure?

1) Scan current modules on car and keep a copy of all the settings especially the CAN Gateway

2) Remove existing CAN Gateway and replace with 7N0907530.

3) Code new Gateway with same settings as old one. Can I just enter the original coding (mine is six digits long) or do I have to go through each screen and check the correct boxes?

4) Make sure car starts and runs with no fault codes.

5) Remove Audience HU and replace with Columbus. I assume that he will need to install a GPS aerial but an 06 Octavia will not have the diversity aerials that the Columbus expects therefore we need to use the Antenna 2 socket but we will get an 'Open Circuit' fault when scanned with VCDS which is nothing to worry about.

6) This is where I need some help as I am unsure whether the Columbus will then work correctly or whether it needs a code entering somewhere.

3) Take screenshots of the current configuration, so you know what the coding actually refers to. From everything I've seen on here, no-one has ever recommended a "copy and paste" when changing gateways. You can then compare before and after if anything is adrift.

5) You can get a splitter which will let you connect 1 aerial to 2 sockets. If you're only going to use 1 use the inner one of the two, that does AM and FM, the other does FM only. Plenty of room in the dash for the GPS unit too :)

6) Yes, you will need the 4-digit code. Enter that and rock'n'roll! :)

Thanks for the reply.

I have scanned my car and see what you mean about the check boxes so I wil be very careful to record all of the existing settings.
