LED number plate lights standard?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Iv never been on this section but is a curiosity thing. Are they any models of the Superb that comes with LED number plate lights as standard?

I have a mk3 octavia vrs on order and want genuine led lights so they last.

Thanks

Rob

Think you've gotta get the vag com laptop out to set the bulbs to LED's?

Or some resistors but I'm not sure as I've not tried it yet!

Thats rubbish haha, ill double check audi ones but think they are different

Genuine VAG LED (read: Audi) lights won't work without hardware modification. Different dimensions. There is however a thread going about Superb LED license plate lights, I got some on recommendation and they are absolutely brilliant, very bright, doddle to install. No VCDS intervention needed, no warning lights. I don't know if they fit an Octavia III though, you might want to ask the seller.

Just to confirm, I got this set from seller djgenius10 on eBay ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130948016491 )

They come with 2 license plate lights (18 LEDs in each),2 massive resistors and 2 wiring looms.

Everything clicked together very good, and the light is very VERY bright white. Maybe even a tad too bright, hope the local constabulary don't take offence. But as a product, it appears to be very well made and well built. Shipping was about 3 days from Ire to Belgium. Time will tell if they last, but so far: highly recommended!

If they work and last then its worth paying the extra isnt it

Indeed. Haven't read any bad things about them in the LED license plate light topic, so i said why not. Will report back if they go bad!

Right after loads of research I think iv found some VW ones that may fit but this still needs to be confirmed:

Here's the part number: 3AF-943-021-A

Here's the new genuine VW led number plate module:

Here is the standard octavia 3 number plate light that a very kind briskoda member got me:

And here is a photo from the USA thread on TDIClub of a standard passat light module, which to me looks the same as octavia's:

Superb uses same licence plate lights as Passat 3C. Found a topic in spanish (? :D) VAG forum and found out that stock lights can be replaced with OEM leds (partno 1K8943021C). Haven't ordered them yet, but will do.

Right, yes they are the same as the ones on the mk7 golf gtd also, the new octavia's are different and believe the ones I show above.

Do these throw up the blown-bulb warning on the dash?

Apparently the ones pictured last don't but the ones i posted do require VCDS

Why shouldn't they throw warning? Their power consumption is smaller than halogens.

They have resistors in them which will increase the current they draw and i believe the warning light works from the current

anyone know how much these are and where can u get them from

I know this is nothing to do with the question but the number plates on my last car - SEAT Alhambra - lasted 8 years! Doesn't seem worth the effort to change to LED in my humble opinion!

They look better

might try tps and see how much they are.  so the 1K8943021C oem numberplate lights will be plug and play with no bulb out errors

They look better

They do and are far better than the dim Skoda bulbs.
