Automatic wipers / headlights

Featured Replies

In my car the auto-dimming mirror and rain sensor look like a combined unit, so I assumed they were always sold that way? Such that to add the rain sensing function what you'd need to do is buy the combined auto-dimming mirror and rain sensor. Perhaps newer ones are different.

I had a look earlier and it does look like a single unit. But the sensors in the mirror are separate to the rain/light sensor.

Well of course, they are sensing different things and looking in opposite directions! As amusing as it might be to have wipers triggered by the headlights of a car approaching from behind when it's dark ;) .

There is a thread on here about autolights with a third party module and window sensor. The OP has not updated it with the results.

Yes but the mirror needs two sensors so that it can detect a difference in light level between front and rear.

Fair point, I understand your initial post now.

Push the arm down and they will do a single wipe.

Auto lights and auto wipers are two things I wouldn’t pay a penny for.

Quite the opposite for me, love them. Convenient and hassle free in my old beemer and in my current octy. I would even pay for them if I were buying a new car.

I really like them too. However, I do a lot of motorway driving and sometimes would rather have my lights on in DRL mode even during the day. Need to work out if this is possible on my Scout.

Yes i think só, nothing like pluging in

The vcds

Sorry for the hijack but I've noticed that when I use my washer jets, if my lights are set to auto using the washers/wipers seems to switch them on.

Any ideas why (other than the wipers sweeping the screen over the sensor)?

When you turn the wipers on, the auto lights come on as they assume it's raining.

I guess this is why your lights get turned on by using the washers.

I think the lights only come on if the wipers are running 10 seconds or more in normal wiping mode, wiping constantly. This also can be turned off
