Reversed into a bollard

Featured Replies

What a tit, managed to reverse into a bollard yesterday evening, I suspect it requires a new bumper skin?

Ouch!!!!!

I trust you don't have Parking Sensors or are you not telling?

Hope you get it sorted

You'll probably find that it could be decreased using a heat gun and then skimmed with filler

No parking sensors, wish I had now.

Blame the wife...lol

From my previous experience if it does not  look that bad then leave it alone

Unless you can do a factory job, then a simple repair it may alert buyers that something much worse happened?

I had this problem with my Audi TT... a small scuff to the front bumper, local garage did not do a good job

When I tried to sell all buyers thought it been involved in a serious crash!!

Just an idea?

Having sensors doesn't stop you from reversing into brick walls if the sensors haven't started properly and the wall is small and you're not concentrating...

Need to find a new bumper and top plastic bit.

And then rewire the OS sensor as it severed the wires (crushed between bumper bar and the bumper).

I had something similar on my last Octy, with parking sensors  :wall:

Caught the corner of a low wall while turning round in a side street. Dark, raining - the usual! First thing I knew the sensors just went solid, then heard a bang  :wonder:

Mine looked worse than that and the bodyshop did a plastic weld on it (I think) and you couldn't tell at all, and I'm pretty picky. Should have some before & after pics somewhere....

Here you go:

+1. Try using flat edge (metal ruler) from behind bumper cover in the crease line when heating to help push out damaged area. Don't have heat gun too close though or you may damage the paint - just enough heat to give some elasticity to the plastic should be enough to remove the majority of the indentation.

It always makes me chuckle when I see a car with parking sensors and a huge crease in the rear bumper :giggle:

Totally agree!

There's no accounting for a moments lack of concentration though. Sensors or not.

It's like seeing a brand new car on the back of an RAC flatbed...

Yeah I split my sides too. I hope you don't have a scrape buddy otherwise you'll hear the howling all the way from Cardiff

Thanks. I'm not going to try this myself, rather someone else do it so has done it before, but at least I might not have to cough up £100s to hide it.

Small rear bumper marks can often be disguised with a sticker, GB is the obvious one

Good idea, anyone got a sticker suitable for this? :bandit:

Wow. Something's done some damage there!

My uncle also has reversed into a wall even with sensors. I've done it in my fabia.

It happens. Use a good bodyshop and do not be afraid to take it back if you are not happy with the finish.

Yep really annoyed. It's was one of those temporary barriers, the plastic red and white ones they use on contraflow road works. It was placed on a kerb at a stupid angle at the edge of a car park at a takeaway restaurant. Dark so didn't see it...

Our next door neighbour bumped into my S4 while parking last week.

Put deep gouges into the rear bumper and diffuser.

Had it repaired and picked up today. The bill for his insurance company................just short of £1200!

On the plus side I got to borrow an S5 cabriolet for a week.

A couple of years back my vec was parked in the street where I used to live.....decide to walk up the road and saw police car and another car parked close to my car. Check the back of my car and he there car is a little too close to mine.....copper looks at me and instantly says there didn't hit yours.....are you sure....yes now go away.....next morning it's got a scrape and slight bend in it....annoyed me alot..... Another time reversed into a building wall.....and had 2 rear shunts at junctions......bumper was scratched bits when i got rid of it but always felt gutted after......
