Build delay due to KESSY?

Featured Replies

We have an order in with our dealer which has effectively 'taken over' a car they had already specced, which has been given a provisional build week of 44.

They've changed the spec to match our requirements with one exception - they are unable to add KESSY (keyless) as it's apparently currently not available. I've been told that it 'might return in week 45', which obviously misses the cut for a week 44 build car and would add a lot to our waiting time.

Has anyone else had this issue or can anyone shed any light on what's happening?

Thanks in advance!

I specced Kessy on my VRS Estate that was built yesterday and is now in Emdem waiting for shipping. I hope it is in the car when it arrives!

Interesting.

You're from Norfolk too right? What colour VRS estate should I be looking out for? :-)

Did you order from Robinsons?

Unless it is because the parts have a longer lead time to order than the cars current build week as I popped in to see my dealer the other day to ask out of curiosity what the price difference would be if I added DSG and was told it would be a waste of time looking as they would not be able to make that "big" a change for my build week of 42. Said I'd only be able to make minor interior change at this point.

Mine was built week 36 with it and it's sitting at Emden right now.

Mine is being built this week. Haven't been told KESSY is not available.

I hope there isn't a problem. Mine is provisionally week 41 with KESSY.

The plot thickens eh! Maybe they've earmarked enough parts but an extra one at week 44 isn't available?

Strange.

Maybe they meant it is too late to add it to your particular car as Mike83 said. Sometimes it's easier to just say it is not available.

I'll be getting an update on my order on Friday, so I'll ask.

Yes, ordered from Robinsons, white estate tsi. I wonder if you we're one of the 2 orders placed before mine?

I've just spoken to Skoda UK and it looks like there is a problem with KESSY, but they are saying that it doesn't affect existing orders, only new ones. Fortunately, my order is not affected.

It sounds to me like they have a supply issue, but they have enough to cover existing orders.

Thanks. New orders also equals spec changes to existing orders I guess, how annoying!

I would imagine so, yes.

I'll be interested to hear how long your car takes to get from your build week to delivery. :)

Keyless entry and security seem to crop up on quite a few forums of late and due to big security issues, SWMBO just got herself an ST3 which has keyless and reading on the Focus ST forum it is an issue. Alot of owners have invested in the old 'disklocks' remember them from the bad old days, well, they appear to be coming back.

Don't read me the wrong way I like the concept I just worry about how easy they are to steal if you really wanted to........!

Any further details?

P

Ooh blimey yes, it was in the telegraph last week - a bloke managed to record his new RS4 getting nicked on CCTV. Gone in 60 seconds! Keyless entry makes cars very easy to steal now. I'm glad I have an old fashioned key after hearing all the horror stories!

I just done get the KESSY thing, I was tempted but then I read you have to touch the door handle to unlock and lock it i just didnt see the point, seems a backward step, I can unlock and lock my 2011 car from tens of metres away..... actually i've been able to do that with every car ive owned in the last 13 years.....

Crikey! That's a bit worrying!

P

@Neily, so I guess on the cars you've unlocked from afar until now, you've never touched the door handle to actually open the door? :P That's the "unlocking" for you on Kessy. And I'm actually ok with having to touch the handle to lock it. You wouldn't want it to lock itself whenever it decides to do it.

The Audi theft was rather impressive/worrying/annoying to watch.

PS: I hope you guys don't think that if you get a car with normal keys, that those won't get stolen. ;)

Does the Audi RS4 share the same KESSY underpinnings as the Octavia? I would have thought so.

Aren't most car thefts a break-into-your-house-steal-keys-and-away job nowadays anyway?
