Very nice. Did I see that on eBay recently - I recognise the numberplate?

PS. I have a 126 too!

Yay! & loving that plate!

My wheel hubs went the same way & hence the green alternative I'm now running with. ;)

Funs are great looking cars but only without that long hardtop which reminds me of a hearse. The 1.6 VW lump is another bad choice. But other than that your car looks great.

What you need now, is a set of those little roof bars on the cab, sets them off nicely

Hardtop agreed but 5.5 years & 65k virtually trouble free miles implies I don't concur with your engine perspective. Of course it depends on what you want from your car/engine in everyday use! ;)

I am thinking at the oil consumption and at low power for a 1.6 engine. I believe that Czechs were able to do better, but they had to use that old VW engine as part of the new VAG umbrella agreement.

Yep I know where you're coming from adurer. There seems to be a fair range of oil consumption on this unit & perhaps I've struck lucky in that mine uses less than 500ml in 10k (service point). However I've heard of quite a few cases of much higher consumption & appreciate this can relate to valve seals etc.

On balance & accepting it's weaker points I quite like the AEE unit. However at times more power on tap would be useful & it's a pity VAG didn't adopt more choice for this model & perhaps it was restricted by a limited run of essentially the same model with only slight variation. A nice turbo diesel option wouldn't have gone a miss though!  :smirk:

The bodywork is the bane of my life & leaves me wishing it had proved as maintenance free as the mechanical side. Fat chance!   ;)

I have had a busy day. i attacked the rust with a wire brush attachment on my drill, I was pleased that the rust was not as bad as I thought, So treated with rust converter, fiberglass repair, skim of filler, Just awaiting prep before paint.

The bumpers were an easy Fiberglass repair.

The seats cleaned up very well

Does anyone know what the frogs with crowns is about?

Regarding the Hearst to :-) It will be great for winter as I have daughters that would freeze without it :-)

Re wheels:- I am looking for another set of wheels to use until I get the originals sorted out.

The 1.6 plodding engine is more than enough for me. I am a bit of an old git, so my Doughnuts and burn out days are long gone :-)

No wasn't on Ebay. I had a few Fiat 126s, sadly my last one was stolen and dumped in a local pond last Christmas :-(

Does anyone know what the frogs with crowns is about?

Sadly, no. The question comes up from time to time, but I think the answer is lost in the mists of time.

Original wheels are getting fairly rare now. Although if you want a "make do" solution, anything from the Felicia cars will do, or from the MKII VW Caddy. (Which is a Felicia pickup wearing VW badges)

I have a pair of wheels that would do the job with good tyres on, if you're looking to do a refurb on the originals.

No must admit I've never managed to work out the link to frogs with crowns? I don't particularly like them & removed the external ones a while back!

Would be interested to hear some more facts/info on your new Fun ;)

I had assumed the images are from The Princess and The Frog story, as the frog transforms into a Prince. The Fun does its own transformation, though revealing some extra seats isn't quite the same level of magic!

That's the best shot I've seen so far! I like it! :) :) :)

Now that's plausible   ;)

I have been busy killing of as much tin worm as I can :-) Surprisingly not as bad as I thought.

Car had a good service, long overdue I assume by the state of the oil and plugs. Changed leads cap and rotor just in case.

While under the car I discovered it also needs a radiator  , also a new pipe that runs under the radiator, the leak has dripped on the pipe for a long time and it is corroded really badly.

Hopefully one of the clever ones here can tell be what the pipe is called, The steel one seen in the picture below.

That's a power steering pipe. They are about £150 from skoda dealer.

Is it possable to clamp the rubber pipes, remove it clean it up and put back or will I need the system need bleeding of I do, like with brakes?

Sorry I am more of a 'tinkerer' than a mechanic.

the steering fluid is a light green mineral based oil, there's no bleeding as such... When you refill the system just keep turning th steering from lock to lock and holding it at full lock for about 3 seconds each time, you do this with th cap off the steering reservoir and the engine running, this purges the air from the steering circuit.. Obviously it's much easier with the front wheels off the floor but not necessary...

If I recall that's the low pressure feed pipe that goes from the reservoir to the pump so it's just on jubilee clips... The other fluid unions in the system need a 22mm or 24mm socket I can't remember which now, and one of the unions on the steering rack is 19mm.

Thank you so much. That has really helped me sleep tonight. I thought I would need a mechanic, but I will certainly have a go.

I am hoping that the leak from the radiator was simply dripping off the pipe, maybe the corrosion is not too bad.

£150 for a pipe? Wow.  Hope the one in my car is in good condition  :giggle:

That's a cracking looking car, OP.  Don't see many of them around and it looks like you're fixing up the bodywork well!  The radiator isn't a terribly difficult job if you want to replace it - I got one from Euro Car Parts for my 1.9D for about £40 and it was about a half hour job including draining and refilling the coolant. Should have a little bit more room to manouvre with the 1.6 engine too.

Actually come to think of it that is a low pressure pipe so they might be cheaper, the hp ones are much more expensive though circa £150, that is of course if they are still available... A lot of these bits are obsolete now.

The air con ones will probably be more as diffrent but any 1.6 felicia one will fit

New radiator ordered (£20 delivered). I removed the old one today.   looks like I need a fan housing now too.

The radiator looks rather knackered.

Next job today was to spray the strutt brace in yellow (mustard like the bumpers) matching the rest of the car.
