My new toy 'Fun'

Featured Replies

Nice to see a fun getting a bit of TLC. Work begins on mine next spring. Noticed youve lost your timbers? Im looking to source replacements myself, might get a discount if we get two lots made together.

Awesome, I'm going to have a similar guide for a diesel coming up when I get round to it - you need to remove the battery and strut brace on those though :(

Glad you sorted out your fan problem, I me interested in how your going to tackle your turret tops,

One of my Funs has the same problem, not bad yet, but will need attention soon, and if you could take a few detailed pics before and after the fix then that would be great. thanks John.

Turrets, They looked really bad but after attacking with a wire brush bit they were not as bad as I thought. I had nasty visions of removing and replacing the whole turrets.

I treated with aqua steel, then welded the one tiny hole that was all the way through (about 50p size) then filled with fiberglass. Sanded back and painted.

Aghhhh!

Taxed the car and took it for a nice drive.

Front drivers side caliper sticking, so brake locked on all the time.  :@

Removed the caliper the Piston is rusted solid. Aghhhh! What is going to happen next. I just want to use my truck  :(

It is now stuck at my garage with no brakes.

Maybe a good time to upgrade to mondeo calipers and 256mm vented discs?

Mmmm not really my thing at all. It is a 1.6  :-) I don't think it needs any more stopping power ;-)

To have mine reconditioned = £79.00

New on Ebay = 39.99 + £10 postage = £50

Second hand on Ebay = £25 - £70 plus postage.

Local Europarts £26.99 Plus VAT

Certainly worth shopping around.

Tomorrow my 12 year old daughter has the fun of helping me bleed the brakes. i have never done it before so should be fun

brake fluid isn't very friendly to 12 year old girls so be careful

you do need 2 people to do it the old fashioned 'pump the pedal' method, i guess a pressure bleeder is out of your price range though

I will be at the messy end, she will be on the foot brake. I bought one of the simple hoses with a non return valve.

Picked a set of BB Toyota Alloys. Not the split rims I would like but on my budget they should look better than the originals.

One has a puncture, why is nothing simple? ;-)

If it was simple, it wouldn't be half as much fun ;)

Aghhhhh! They don't fit :-(

the hole in the middle is a couple of mm too small. next question can I simply use my trusty Dremmel? it is a couple of mm about 5mm in???

Interesting read, don't frequent this part of the forum so its nice to see such a fast progressing topic when i do. With regards to the centre bore of the wheel - are you asking if you can increase it to fit the hubs on your car using a dremel to grind some wheel away? If so i'd advise against it as this is a vital part of the wheel, its really what takes the stress from the weight of the car, not the bolts. If you were to big spigot rings can be used to bring the bore of the wheel down to match the car but don't know of a way of going up.

  • Author

Mmmm that's the problem, I have googled this and as you say spigot rings would be OK if the bore was too big :-( machining the wheels would be the way to go but aghhhhhh! way out of my price range.

I would leave the dremel and the wheels alone.. You'll never make them fit like that.

Itemight be possible to buy some centric spacers wich adapt the size of the centre bore but at a guess I would say these would cost you more than a set of wheels.

I need to find a friendly engineer with a big lathe

I had a set of bmw wheels i wanted on my mk1 renault clio a couple years back and suffered the same issue. Contacted a few local engineering firms and most were happy to help at a reasonable price. I'd suggest the same, send out an email to all the machining shops about explaining exactly what your issue is, if they can't do it they're sure to know who can :) And the more i think of it the more i think...KEEP THE DREMEL AWAY haha

Wheels now on the back burner :-(

Head gasket needs doing Aghhhh. I have never changed one, this should be fun :-)

That's tres rare, they don't often go pop on the 1.6 engines.. Are you sure it's gone?

that is simple............... would be more complicated if your wheels didnt fit too.......

dont mess with the wheels to much, might be better to sell them and get some others.
