Question about HID kits

Featured Replies

I've recently purchased an after market HID kit for my vRS mk II pre FL from HIDs direct, The HID kit is 4300k with 35W bulbs, ballasts etc. My question is since the standard bulbs operate at 55W should the HID kit not be 55W too? I had an Opel/ Vauxhall Astra OPC/VXR prior to the vRS and i had a 55W HID kit on that without hassle so i'm kinda confused here...

Any replies / insight would be appreciated

Lay answer - HIDs produce much more light from a given power consumption, so you don't need to run as high wattage units to get light down the road.

55w hid's will be brighter than your main lights.

35w is perfect. Though I do think 5,000 is better than the 4,300. one.

I also went 35W 4300K to match OEM.

They are great but I've never experienced 5000K.

I bought some 50w 5000k hids but the ballasts were too big to go into the h/l shell.  After a quick run round the back lanes I sent them back and got some 35w, 43000k from London colour.

Very illuminating to drive behind.

I also went 35W 4300K to match OEM.

Used 5k bulubs in my first kit on my 2010 vrs.

Went for 4300k in my 2012 vRS as per advised on here to have them closer to om

Found the 5k to be much much whiter and better lighting of the road.

As a result I fitted 5k again in my 2013 vRS.

Would advise anyone to go 5k.35w
