Congratulations Mark! I'm happy that you have found a new car/project but also a little sad that the mean Green is off to find a new home.

I'm looking forward to venturing into the Superb project section.... Do I need a passport???

I believe the visa application involves less cake and spam than the Yeti sub forum

Oh and yes I have ordered one of those piles cushions for the buggering I took on the trade-in :o

You coming to the meet tomorrow?

Very sad, today he's off to a new home.

Official end of Project thread.

Feeling a bit emotional, he's been a storming little car and has always delivered over and above what was required, either out having fun or on family duty.

I've been lucky to have had a truly fault free experience with a Mk2 vRS.

Gonna miss this one

A couple of you have got your names on a few parts

I'll be in touch this week now I'm back in the UK

It's hard to let a good car go, but I look at it this way; you have picked the best time to upgrade. Always better to let a good car go before it turns into a not so good one. When age takes it's toll and they start costing you more and more ££ and causing hassle tainting your overall love for it!

I'm slightly gutted I didn't get to go to a meet in time to possibly see it for real. :-(

Enjoy your new car, I think it's going to be more of a belter than the Fabia already.

G'day Sparkly, just looking through this thread was excited to see how the car was going then was gutted to see the end of the car but needs must sometimes, i just saw about the springs, I've spoken to someone at Skoda about fitting some H&R 40mm springs, and he told me my eye balls will fall out if I fit them and I'd sincerely regret it if there was either any bumps or speed bumps round my area, and I really value this guys opinion but I don't think he's driven one so I don't think he can say, and I'm not too keen on just dropping it by 30mm seems like a bit of a fart in the wind to me, could anyone give me an accurate like description of how the 40mm facet the car on a day to day basis? And could anyone else tell me if they had any problems with the wheel hitting the wheel arch or whatever (I know very little about cars but have just bought a VRS 64 plate but it is too tall for me) any feedback would be brilliant, I know this thread might have ended but just a big thanks to sparkly for a great read over all 20 pages!!!

Your somone at Skoda is talking out of his arse, sorry :)

My car was always a daily driver first and foremost before anything else and was used for all manner of family duties including holiday runs from Yorkshire down to Cornwall.

I think I have already said in the thread but H&R40mm springs were no worse than stock for comfort and lightyears ahead for handling.  You get a little bit more of a bounce to the ride over undulating roads when cracking on because the springs overwhelm the dampers a little but still better than crashing around on the stock springs wallowing all over the place.  Get some uprated dampers on and you will have a very sweet handling little Fabia, add a rear anti-roll bar and you will have a little weapon on your hands.

the wheels will also be nowhere near the arches at all unless you start playing around with new wheels or spacers and even then you can add 15mm spacing all around on the car and still not touch arch.

Any questions, let me know, if you ignore the oil threads etc in the subforum, the Mk2 boys are a pretty helpful crowd :D

If you haven't read Dave (Sharkrider's) thread yet, I suggest you take a look in there for lots of good advice and content.  Dave is the guy who has tracked his Fabia the most from the UK i think and is still active on here.

Thanks very much Sparkly, i actually saw one of your comments on a thread before when someone said that lowering was just for boyracers, and i have to say your reply was just absolutely marvelous, i even had to read it to my old man and my missis, (my old man is a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to cars i think hes just got used to the round thing we call a wheel actually). It was one of the best reads ive read it in a long time for sure, thanks for your insight i really appreciate all of it, its really good to get some good info on them, and yes i think the bloke at skoda is talking out of his trumpet somehow, ill be getting them ordered from DPM, the other parts you mention, do you know where i could get some of them? ill have a look through the beginning of this thread and see if you did mention it at some point which im sure you may have done. Do you have any idea on prices for dampers? Im slightly apprehensive of asking a Skoda dealer as they seem to think prices are much like balloons and blow them up till they pop. (from my own personal experience of course). ill definitely check out Daves thread thanks a lot for all the help and feedback, thanks again for a massively helpful and great reading forum!

Thanks for the kind words.

Everything H&R and Vibratechnics on my car came from Alex at AKS Tuning in Bedford - I probably sound like a fan boy of AKS but Alex is just such a great bloke to deal with patient, helpful and importantly he seems to have looked after everyone who I have sent their way pretty well.

I also had good dealings with Al @ Awesome GTI who have a sponsor section in the forum.  I bought my ST dampers from them for a very very good price which I suspect was one time offer to get someone using them on a Fabia, but I paid £300 delivered i think.

Awesome GTI also did my APR remap which was faultless.

I'd forget Skoda dealers for anything related to modifying, it just isn't really what they are there for.

Im going to Awesome soon for new suspension

Now looking at a full Koni FST setup and 35mm springs...but if you are recommending ST..I might ask about those too

Cheers sparkly, so I wouldn't need to have a skoda dealer fit them to keep within the warranty? No I agree it's not what they're there for if I'm honest. I'll have a word with Alex mate and see what he says, thanks for all your help sparkly, really appreciate it, I'll get some pictures up when I have something done, as for the dampers I think they'll be in the next budget this months will be taken up by the springs and the fitting I'd say. Cheers again :)

Hi Chris,

Koni FSD's as i understood are a little more targeted to ride comfort.  The ST's from KW were bought for my Fabia principally as a reasonable price uprated damper to control the increased spring rate of the already installed H&R springs and reduce bounce, they did this and improved handling and some improvement on ride comfort.

I guess it is really about what you are aiming for.  I know it is almost a boring answer on here but have you looked at a Bilstein B12 kit?

To be clear, you will void your suspension warranty the minute you fit aftermarket parts.  No way to retain it unless you take the Skoda Approved Eibach Dealer Fit springs and have a dealer fit them.  However you are fitting brand new springs and dampers with their own warranty (up to 2 years for some of the better brands)

In hindsight I would always do my springs and dampers together to save on labour, even if it means waiting a while to get them done.

Look forward to the updates.

One more question (promise it's the last haha!!) have you ever seen or heard of anyone fitting a rear spoiler? I've just been over to Thailand and saw someone with a very similar looking car with a spoiler that looked absolutely fantastic, I'd say the closest I can describe it is like the focus RS one but sort of upside down, I don't know if my description is awful, probably Is, but thought I'd ask!!

Yes I have..still pondering/decision making...Limited budget and all that

Well if budget is a factor, what I can say Chris is that the ST's performed very well, I am told they contain KW damping technology.  I certainly don't think it would be a bad spend.  Best of luck

Thanks a lot

Also I can put you in touch with the lad that fitted my springs and dampers in Huddersfield.  I did this and then ran the car down to an alignment centre.

Also saved some pennies.

Many thanks again..I think I'll take a trip to Awesome..eventually as I may combine this with a remap as well...pennies dependant of course

Cheers for the hit up to AKS tuning, yeah it definitely see your point on the dampeners and the springs at the same time, I did have A char to alex at AKS and he said the dampeners would probably be okay with it being a 64 plate, as soon as they're here ill get them on nd get some photos up.. Oh and also spoken to pasty boy about getting myself some badges made.. Wait for the updates for them coz hopefully they'll look cool!!

Chris, this is probably something for another thread, but avoid the FSDs on the Octy. Mine failed just before selling earlier this year.

My advice: Bilstein B12 kit.

I'm in the same boat Chris.... Because my standard shocks are still working well, (28,000 miles) I'm considering just waiting until they wear , and then biting the bullet for the bilstiens.

Thanks for the advice guys

Sorry about the hijack Mark

EDIT:

B12 kit ordered and to be fitted on the 6th Nov @ Awesome

Thanks for the recommendation

Sparkly did you ever think of putting an aftermarket performance exhaust on your mean green? ive been playing with the idea. i saw you re mapped yours but im incredibly wary of blowing my engine and there not being any warranty to wipe the tears when it all goes up in flames.. Got me car booked in for tuesday to have the springs put on!! will smash some pictures on next week some time when im stopped cornering properly finally..
