Sparkly's Mk2 vRS (now sadly returning to stock)

Featured Replies

I must admit that when I test drove Octy III Estate Tdi with manual box and 4x4 system I was horrified with ride quality. If you think vRS can be construed as having hard, crashy ride then try octy III - it felt like it had no suspension bushes at all! Manual gearbox was like from a WWII Russian tractor. I thought it was me so SWMBO had a go as well and she hated it after 30 seconds driving it.

Funny thing was that the saloon version with DSG and FWD I drove when it was released was excellent... apart from massive under-steer of course

One thing that cannot be disputed is Ford's superior handling :).

Montune with Ford warranty is a big bonus as well!

The ford focus estate st would be my choice. Looks good, handles well, more refined, quick and a good size. Possibly a bit more grown up than the fabia estate.

The ford was my first choice over the vrs but the prices at the time for the ford were to high.

Have to say I wouldn't buy the new Focus ST, we have a 5 door hatch at work and it's a nightmare to drive. Torque steers like a bitch, the seats although figure hugging, are very uncomfortable. We had several of the previous ST's and they were awesome cars (and we drive them hard for the whole shift)

The new version just isn't a nice place to be sat, especially for 9 hours a day

Spacers, RARB and ITG intake are all now destined for new homes on other Brisky members cars.

Car being stripped delayed until this weekend.  Going to be a sad day.

Just because I think it is an absolutely quality mod and I really want someone to try it. I would offer the Vibratechnics Lower Engine Mount at a discount to anyone reading this thread.  Call it £70.00 and split the postage costs with you.

Whats replacing the Fabia then Mark?

As yet unconfirmed.  So I will have to pootle about in stock mode until I make my mind up.

So far the top contenders are a Focus ST estate or a VW Transporter :)

4x4 1.8tsi Yeti is also still in the running.  But I am not sure I am cut out for that particular sub forum :peek:

Come on T5 Sportline! I loved the one I used! :)

hey Mark... will you let me have a drive of your new ride next time we meet? I am simply not interested in the fords, and like some of the pro skoda arguments abouve...

BUT : I never thought I'd buy the eunos until I drove an MX5.... so maybe I have to experiance what BOSS is talking about before I am qualified to make statements ;)

Car is now all but suspension returned to stock.

Observations:

Without the ITG the engine is a lot quieter in the cabin, the car feels a little less eager but still plenty fast enough.

Good springs and dampers mean the lack of RARB is not as noticeable as when car just on springs alone. But you do know the RARB is gone as the car is just not quite as flat and confident as before.

The Brembo's are sooooooo much better than stock brakes, the difference is biblical, when I first got back in the car the stock brakes felt positively dangerous.

I only now realise just how much confidence I had in this little cars abilities with these mods, feels weird to have that eroded

"Positively dangerous"- well put!

True, but the Fabia was far from perfect when I first got it.

I don't expect anything to be exactly what I want straight out of the box, but I will be looking for a good base should I make the occasional modification ;)

I am intentionally going to pick something that won't make me draw too many comparisons with the Fabia.

I am slowly discounting the possibility of the Focus ST due to prices, I will need to pick between an Octy and a Yeti I think.

............keeping it Skoda :D

Yeti!!!!!!! :) need to have a proper competition in the yeti department

Mk3 octy estate in rallye green.

Yeti!!!!!!! :) need to have a proper competition in the yeti department

This. :)
