Well that's a shocker...:) Positive one...!!!! When are you getting this new Drive then...?

good car Mark :) gilly has the 170bhp diesel 4x4 (mapped to 200bhp) and it goes quite well :)

Ahem, did I mention Superb here before? :D.

Saw this car on Auto Trader’s Android App. Thought you might be interested. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201406245262585

Thanks mate, but that looks to be a DSG non 4x4, I'm really after a manual with the Haldex setup

The one in the pic above (althought it's at the car people) isthe 4x4 version £5k less 40kmiles on an 11 plate, and a real contender

Get it tested Sparkly ;)

Get it tested Sparkly ;)

Will do.

At the moment it's all concept.  I may get in it and find that it is the most hateful thing I have ever driven, but I suspect it will be fine

Mind is already onto mods necessary to get me around the track safely at Sept Combe.  A beast like that will need some real manly brakes to A) Make it stop and B) and not set on fire after two laps of hard use

IIIRC a MK2 Fabia vRS is around 1250kg with unnecessaries removed.  The superb looks to come in at a whopping 2 metric tonnes. :D

I'm sure you could purchase a highly modded 1.8tsi engine and swap the bits over! Just need Richard to hurry up with the 2.0 conversion!

Bit of a change.... good luck with the buy. :)

I have driven Gilly's and believe me its up to the job, the grip is huge, its very stable, doesn't feel its weight, brakes are up to the job too! we have been in a few "fast road" battles, and it holds its own very well (bear in mind his is making 200bhp)

I would class it as track ready already! but a set of yellowstuff pads wouldn't hurt ;)

Thanks Dave, that's really useful and sets my mind a little further on the matter.  It's a compelling proposal really as it could serve so well as a family motor too.  I'm trying to confirm but I think the car comes stock with 312mm front and 280mm rear, something like a Vagbremtechnic Porsche Set up would be all that's required to sort out the stopping power.

Ambitions for modifications go a shade further than a set of Yellowstuff - in order to keep things interesting I would be looking at Stage 2 Power, Maybe Hybrid or if I could ever afford a full K04 setup like Richard has on the Yeti.  then the required handling and braking upgrades to cope.

I'm sure someone will have pipped me to the post and had one out on track, but Richard's Fish out of Water approach to track day cars with the Citigo and Yeti, with their very surprising performance, has enormous appeal :D

dont think anyone has done the 1.8 K04 on the superb 4x4 before! it would be an AWESOME machine with that setup :)

I think it could be quite useful with 320bhp and a few chassis tweaks.

The weight is still a bit of a worry for trackdays, but I think it is the challenge that would keep things interesting.  That and the shock value of the large beast out mixing it with the Fabia Mk1's :D

Barge.

Doesn't handle nearly as well as the Yeti.

Barge.

Point being, I could get a Yeti and like it, and look after it, and tune it, and bring it to a track meet, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand still get summarily spanked by the Yeti vRS.  Drawing the inevitable comparisons, leaving me feel greatly inferior.

If I turn up in a giant barge, I will not only get to be the underdog rank outsider, people may even take pity on me and bonus of all bonuses, you have already given me my first racing excuse :D

Bring on the racing barge.

I like that tactic very much!

Well it's always nice to see people trying something new and haldex certainly has it's advantages.

My only concern is the weight.

Get the estate. :D

Slightly concerned I've set the bar a bit high for other Yeti fanatics though.

Weight is a concern, no doubt,  would look at an estate as this would be the 'ultimate' but there are precious few 1.8tsi's with 4x4 nationally.  Most are silver saloons.

Errm, ya think? :D

that's why I want to take the less well explored path of a super barge.

Check the Superb section my friend.

Congratulations Mark! I'm happy that you have found a new car/project but also a little sad that the mean Green is off to find a new home.

I'm looking forward to venturing into the Superb project section.... Do I need a passport???
