Acc & lane assist..... Delays on orders, temporarily removed as optional extra

Featured Replies

I must admit to being a bit bewildered by the whole VRS thing ?? What is it about the VRS that makes it so wantable over an elegance ?? The elegance is well fast enough for most people and the boy racer tag thing is a strange concept. You can have a lot of things on the car with the elegance  if you don't want to have the boy racer toys ??

Must be my age, as I think the elegance is a lovely car.

  • We also shouldn't have crumple zones and seatbelts, after all, if people kept control of their vehicles and are able to anticipate what's going on ahead of them, we wouldn't need them.

  • Cat shortages are a big problem. Now, if they could throw in a Panther or a Tiger I'd still be in for a deal!

  • Some clarification for everyone   Front Assist is still standard on the Elegance model but the lead time has been extended by 4-6 weeks   The same with Lane Assist, it is still standard on vRS etc

So annoyed... no idea what car to get now as there is no direct alternative in the VAG range.

Do you have the option of waiting six months before you order, thus giving Skoda/SUK time to sort their act out and probably reintroduce all the good stuff again? I know that in some senses that might feel a bit like you're just indulging a petulant child and letting them sulk until they see sense of their own accord, when really you're itching to send them to the naughty step to make them immediately reconsider their behaviour, but sometimes you just can't be bothered with fighting the good fight against the "computer says no" mentality, and playing the waiting game is the best bet.

The performance of the VRS TSi really isnt comparable to any of the engines available as Elegance spec cars that we get over here in the UK. The steering is noticeably different - the lock to lock is reduced by a decent amount and its progressive unlike the Elegance spec cars which really is more involving when going for a proper drive. The brakes are all together more powerful (due to the largest brakes Skoda have ever fitted to anything!), the handling is sharper (mainly due to the more advanced rear suspension setup but also benefitting from thicker roll bars and firmer dampers and springs) and the interior, mainly down to the sports seats, make it a nicer place to be but thats all pretty obvious stuff and is of course the opinion of someone that still appreciates a sporty rather than a luxury drive.

And of course, its a 'VRS' - that for some is enough reason to want one. But no, there is nothing wrong with an Elegance spec car at all - its just aimed at a different type of buyer. :)

Totally agree however I assume that I am in a similar age bracket to you. Yeti Man is also right, but I think he speaks for a different age group. My first car was a Ford Popular which didn't even have a heater (amongst other things) - but I wouldn't want to go back as I like all the technology.

Sorry Spooks, didn't realise you had ordered the TSi.

Yes unfortunately, you can't order the Winter Pack on any TSi Ocatvia but you can on the TDi Octavia SE, Elegance & vRS

The only things you can order on the TSi at the moment is the heated seats and washer nozzles, which is two thirds of the Winter Pack

Which is a completely ridiculous state of affairs.

A silliness compounded when I couldn't order heated washers on my TDi without taking the heated screen (which I didn't want, the elements annoy me).

I did, however have to take the heated seats if I wanted leather.

So I end up with heated seats only.

edit - sorry that quote didn't really work, did it.

It's such a shame really because the new Octavia is a very nice car. I just can't bring myself to go ahead with my order though - who's to say the production won't be massively delayed? How short sighted are Skoda/VAG? Someone's head must have rolled for this, it beggars belief that they can sell cars and then go 'Oh wait a minute, we don't actually have any parts...'

Annoyingly it seems that even without the new tech, it is better value than a lot of rivals... I'm just hoping the Ford Focus ST Mountune blows me away, it's the same price as the Skoda and comes with all the same kit (Lane assist, Front assist etc). Not sure about the auto parallel park feature but not really bothered.

Argh!

Car manufacturers are dependent upon parts suppliers who are dependent upon component suppliers. If there are shortages at source Skoda have three options. Increase delivery delays, stop selling cats, or simply stop using the missing components.

But I wouldn't want a Puma...

But I wouldn't want a Puma...

I would! Fantastic, nimble little hatchback. :)

This Octy 3 launch appears to be turning into a bit of a fiasco and its nothing new for Skoda unfortunately. I remember when the Yeti was launched and there were delays with the dsg gearbox and panoramic sunroofs...  madness to think they are hitting the same or similar issues with component supply four years later! :(

i dont mind the parts being dropped,if they dropped the price or included summet new as standard, but cant see that happening

Something nice like a Columbus satellite navigation system for example or for those who have it, a sunroof or if you don't want that boot liner, protection strip for the boot, full sized spare and some servicing.

Am I the only one not fussed about using something which I probably would never have used anyway? I wonder how many non-VRS owners order lane assist as an option? Probably not too many.

I guess the option price is £320 so SUK should provide alternatives to the value of. KESSY or Rear Side Airbags would be a preferable alternative for me.

Agreed. Having used it on a demo Elegance 2.0D, I really didn't like it.  I'd rather have Canton or Park Assist instead.

But it's not just the lane assist?? It's the adaptive cruise control (in my view regular cruise is useless on british motorways) and also the very handy emergency stopping so you don't accidently prang the car in traffic etc.

I could handle it if it was just lane assist. The adaptive cruise is one of the major features that I wanted. I specced a car close to 31k, if it isn't absolutely perfect then why spend the money?

Sorry, but if you're relying so heavily on technology to control your speed then I feel that you cannot be a good driver. To be a good driver you need to be able to keep control of your vehicle & be able to anticipate what's going on ahead of you, you should be able to just use your cars throttle to control your speed and barely use the brakes, except when you need to, such as traffic lights, tight bends and emergencies.

I use conventional cruise control, but I also use a set of Mk1 Eyeballs & brain to intelligently control my cars speed & distance from the next one. I feel that if you become too reliant on technology you become less aware and less likely to react to an abnormal situation, too much reliance on technology is a dangerous thing and there's nothing like being in control.

And believe me I know all about fine control, in my job I have to.

TV remotes, there's another thing they shouldn't have bothered with...unless you want one!

Who said anything about relying on technology? I'm quite capable of driving safely, just because I like additional safety nets doesn't mean that I somehow can't drive. Wow very helpful comment, well done.

I'm renaming the thread as the option isn't discontinued and may lead to confusion with people who have cars on order where it is standard fit

Well you are implying that you absolutely need it to feel safe & drive the car. Poppycock. If you are that paranoid & don't feel safe driving a car then perhaps you should hand in your driving licence.

You are a human being, you control the machine, ACC is by no means essential & it takes away some of the involvement and control of the car, you are becoming complacent by letting technology take control.

I would never allow it to do so without it being 1000% reliable and I'm sorry but the way that this item has very rapidly pulled from being an available option, says to me that there are quality control issues or safety/reliability issues with it and yet you would be quite happy to let it control your car with you, your family in it?

I'm very sorry if this offends but you must be one sandwich short of a picnic. For me there's only one thing that controls my car and that's me!

I dictate when cruise in active or when it's inactive, I control my speed & judge my distance, not some computer which knows nothing of its surroundings or the prevailing road surface conditions.

If you are so naive as to trust it, all I can say is more fool you. And if you cannot live without a safety net which isn't absolutely fail safe then I feel very sorry for you.
