Gas & Electric up another 8.2%

Thats trus, but as prices increase, current prices will eventually 'overtake' YOUR prices, and that's when the savings cut-in.

Nope, that's not the point you start saving - that's the point you start clawing back some of what you've already OVERPAID.

I switched to sse the day before the price rise. Fixed for a year and they gave me a £100 credit on my account. They were one of the cheaper deals on offer.

Have you tried contacting them ?I moved to SSE a few years ago - contact them - more chance of raising the dead. I moved back to Eon, and took out Age concern where i get £135 off my electricity .

Just fixed into another 3 year deal with EDF.   It's up 20% on what I fixed to 3 years ago but I have missed the annual hikes in the meantime and now know where I am for the next 3 years.

Still quite sore as my salary has not changed in the same time and I am now paying much greater pension contributions.

That is the wonder of generating from Nuclear stations in France.  Électricité de France with its numerous (59) nuclear stations throughout France supplies GwHrs of energy to several European countries including the UK.

They are also subject to French government controls and are some of the cheapest in Europe. Way to go!

Yep but the NIMBYs in this country are so against nuclear! If they built all the reactors the government suggested we'd be in a much stronger position to resist price hikes.

There are going to build third reactor to go a Hinkley Point site in Somerset and is not Sizewell getting another PWR reactor probably too and 6 other sites....

Balls to nuclear, i'm going with the fact I live in a period house with freshly cleaned out, operational chimneys/ flus and fireplaces. I have a wood store to take me through the next three winters at least and coal is cheap cheap. Not good for the environment perhaps but as my wages haven't moved in the last six years i'm not overly fussy at the moment.

If you have a half decent fixed deal, you'll still be quids in and make a killing :D

It's absolutely shocking how these leccy companies hike up the prices just before winter again! , I'm really contemplating sticking a turbine up ! , next village along has just had one fitted they got together and purchased one and its generation is enough for all the villagers , I will hopefully be erecting one next year if I get planning !

Hinkley indeed is getting a new reactor. But as our government have promised to pay double the going rate for the energy it'll produce I dare say we'll never, EVER see these promised price benefits. Just like the gas from fracking and this supposed economic boom £100bn train set.

Never in a month of Sundays! They are just carrying out maintenance, they rely too much on nuclear.

Depends which paper you read , no guarantee it will be allowed to restart,

They still plan to import gas from Canada

Well the first link you've posted says they're stronger than ever to re open the reactors and the second link doesn't mention it. They'll reopen, there's stockpiles of nuclear fuel and they have no natural resources.

But they're removing all the gas storage towers.  They've removed 3 near me lately.

Surely buy and store when cheap, ready for the winter?

But that's be logical and why would they do that.

Instead sell the storage for houses and up the prices by far more than the real cost, because people will pay or die trying.

If you mean the old gas holders they're being removed because they don't store much gas. They only hold gas at slightly more than atmospheric pressure. Now they use what are known as "bullets" which are the size of a petrol tanker but hold gas in a lquified form so hold a shed load more.

Due to a much larger bang potential these are not located in the middle of towns.
