Well, just curiosity really. Reading some threads regarding mpg make me think I drive far to conservatively! People struggling to get 40mpg out of a diesel Furby must be thrashing their cars...

So, just answer honestly, should make for good reading!

Personally, half of the time I drive really sensibly, sometimes I drive "swiftly" and occasionally really give it some beans! I average 47ish mpg, so I'm dead chuffed.

3rd one seemed appropriate...

I'm often trying to maximise mpg to my best efforts, but a lot of the time I'm just in a f*** it mood and give it some beans, but never over the speed limit unless on private roads or a racetrack.

I believe they call it "making progress" ;)

Usually drive pretty swiftly, but obviously appropriate to travelling conditions etc..

Although i find myself enjoying journeys more and more just cruising along and listening to Radio 2... omg whats happening? lol.!

:sofahide:

As mentioned above... as 99% of my driving is on motorways.. i do drive quite quick when conditions allow (up to 70mph officer :D ) but dont redline or leather it on the work run... weekends are another thing entirely :D

I believe you

I drive to the speed limits in towns, but once i hit the nationals, i like to have some fun.

Ticked 2, 3, 4 ;)

Hmmm. They aren't the best categories for sure. I was just alarmed to hear Furby vRS owners averaging under 40mpg!

Although I occasionally use the car to its best perfomance (i.e. rag the balls off it  ) I always regret it afterwards when thinking about engine longevity, fuel economy etc. But heck, the cars there to be enjoyed. I doubt thrashing a car for 10% of the time or less is going to have a drastic effect on mpg or engine life, infact regarding the latter it might even do some good!

daily driving routine:-

turn engine on

drive fairly sensible till its warm

nag the nuts off it where possible

turn it off

i think that covers all of it

 i sometimes redline my instructors car quite alot!....at 4500 rpm!! lol 1.7 d:eek: not used to such a low rpm!

I tend to find that I tootle along like a grandad (no offence meant) obsesivley looking at the AVG MPG but after a while i lose patience and then give it some stick :D

But I have to say (most of my journeys are on the motorway) that I have never nearly averaged less than 40 MPG ( however after the remap for a few miles the AVG was less than 10 MPG  )

Personally, I couldn't give two hoots for mpg, jesus life is too short to worry about that   . I just drive how I see fit, sometimes that means chugging along, sometimes it means booting it BUT since new I have probably looked at my mpg twice. Are there really people out there that are obsessed with mpg readings???? As far as I am concerned my Furb vRS is more economical than my previous Golf, and thats all I am concerned with. Ask me what my mpg average is and I haven't a clue ;)

I'm interested in my mpg as I like to know how much the car is costing me, but it doesn't affect my driving style of "keeping up with the traffic, officer" and enjoying the car ;)

Chris

When you get to 3 digits the fuel economy goes to pot ;)

Cruising speeds it's fine, and when staying at UK-legal speeds it's 40+ mpg easily.

In Germany I was hitting the lower figures I mentioned, well below 30, but that was going at (for a standard Furby vRS) near-top-speed figures.

On the track figures will probably be pretty awful, but I reckon you'd probably hit high teens average even then in a standard one  - not been on track with it though, I just cannot afford to trash it quite THAT hard :D

For track mpg - I couldn't get my remapped TDI mpg below 23/24 around Anglesey - although that was with a decent amount of "pootle" in the pits and waiting to be let out on track. :)

I change driving style to suit my wallet, if i have the cash then i'm not to concerned about the mpg but about half way through the month it all changes and i drive like my dad until payday where i revert back and start again :D

I'm interested in my mpg because an unexplained drop in economy is often an early warning that something isn't right with the engine. And if you don't know what your 'normal' economy is, you won't spot trouble coming when the signs are there to see.

That's a fair point. That said I've never had a car suddenly start using loads more fuel, other than the sticky brakes on the Rover 100, but then you could tell by the burning smell and the fact you had to stay in 3rd gear as 4th and 5th it would just not move :D

Snap

Option #2 for me. Let the thing warm up, and then its foot down... but i only usually go to redline when doing something like overtaking.

Just been recently I've stopped running her so hard...cruising is a much better option...and been doing so for almost 6 months now...although last night I did floor her  Been so long since I did I got the funny smell you get if you haven't floored the car in a while...
