Fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if the fabia vrs is a good reliable car. Having red this site it seems the are plagued with problems. Just bought my wife one and was wanting one myself. Not sure now.

It think most people would say its a good and mostly reliable car, you have to remember half the point of these forums is to resolve issues, so you dont exactly get people posting 'Hey good news! my doors haven't fallen off!'

every car has its issues, mine was a bit of an arse when i first got it, but once i sorted a few issues i haven't had any problems for a while now ...though im sure by saying that ill suffer turbo failure on the way home.

Having owned one for 4 years and covering 80k, yes.

i couldnt comment on the fabia as ive only had mine 6'months (no problems yet)

but ive had many golfs with the pd engines ive had the AJM=115bhp that was garbage and constantly in the garage

the ASZ=130bhp was fantastic with not a single problem even at 155k

ive also had the ARL=150bhp apart from the cam failing at 105k that was also a fantastic engine

you will get good and bad in all cars just dont worry to much about storys on forums

Currently on She Who Must Be Oneyed 3rd Fabia vRS, (4th vRS inc Octavia) including n SE.

No real problems at all to be fair, rather her have this than a Ford or Vauxhall snotter.

In fact the only problem she had was on her previous vRS which needed a new front electric window mechanism....

As with ANY car, they have had their issues, but nothing which can't be fixed. ;) Also comes down to how said car as been maintained and looked after.

The trouble with carrying out your research on the internet is that you inevitably come across a lot of posts/threads about issues with this or that. Not too often do you see posts about how well the car can do this, or do that.

If you want a car that doesn't break down at all, will run til the end of days and cost you nothing to keep, give up becuase there is no such thing :D

Another thing to think of is a lot of cars on here are modified. There are many horror stories of turbo failure and flywheel problems. But you have to question how many are now on 100k+ miles and mapped.

The ASZ engine is in many cars and is generally considered to be reliable.

It's much more likely that someone will wield a keyboard to bitch and moan about a problem than come on here and post how great their car is and how it's never caused a problem.

I've had an 04 plate VRS for 5 years and 100k and it's been off the road for a total of 3 days.

It made such an impression that when we needed a second car a couple of years ago we bought a second one.

Make of that what you will

Bear in mind that they're a 10  year old car in some cases and they're going to need some maintence.

Only time mine has lay down at the side of the road was a garage's fault not replacing stretch bolts around the drive shafts and one came out.

Everything else has been maintence. 34K done in 2.5 years and great fun :)

my mk1 Focus was massively more reliable than any of the VAG cars we've had, genuinely regret getting rid of it

Yet i had a TDI one that fell to pieces, fuel pump failed, power steering pump popped, injectors needed replacing. Hardly had an issuse with my fabia TDI. If you miss it that much, you can buy another for around 500 quid.

I often wonder myself if they are reliable or not because I do have a list of things I've done and had to do however I've had to do the same with all 12 other cars I've had. But yea this forum is generally for problems which made me worry a bit.

Perhaps if I had a lower mileage one that didn't have all it's service history at Halfords mine would be more reliable.

But things like window regulators can't be blamed on anything apart from build quality.

Every car I've owned bar my volvo has gone wrong in some way.

Seems to me that most cars in this day and age have plenty to go wrong up to super cars like porsche. Bring back rover at least you knew they would be crap lol

My 1.8 zetec was stupidly reliable too, 30K a year and needed only servicing!

Slow as **** however even though it was 130 bhp :)

Every marque has it's common problems and Skoda is no different. I've been driving for 20 years now and had Fords, vaxhalls, VW's and a rather nice Audi A4 and my Fab vrs is by a mile more reliable than all of them.

It's not like i've only owned it for a few months either, i purchased it brand new in Sept 2004 and its still bang on.

I was considering selling next year and having a change but have decided to keep the vrs, i will miss it too much.

I have had my fabia vrs 3 years now, its on a 54 plate and has 118 000 miles.and apart from the original turbo going as expected. ( and replacement turbo going because something managed to get through engine, an expensice **** happens) i have had no other mechanical issues and she easily does 400 mile a week.

As for the ford comment i agree the ones ive had have been reliable mechanics wise just ashame they always manage to breed rust like horny rabbits.

I find with fords that is all the small bits that wear quick. Brakes, window mechs etc
