Current Delays on New Octavia's- Update

Featured Replies

If you can stand the wait, re place the order with everything that you want, except this time write everything down that you want on a sheet of paper and then as they do it, make the sheet of paper with your requirements the checklist.

That's what I did and the only thing that it slung out was the heated windscreen, which I'm still a bit miffed about, but hey ho, I got 99% of the car that I wanted.

Well I had a lengthy discussion with the dealer manager and I finally got him to admit they were initially in the wrong for not speccing the car correctly.  I admit I should have been more thorough when checking the paperwork but in all the excitement of buying my first warm/hot hatch I got carried away and didn't triple check everything.

He agreed to cancel the order and return my deposit.  I am still looking to buy and was really excited about getting one but the this dealer experience has soured it a little for me and I think I would always have that nagging doubt in the back of mind of will anything else be wrong.

Its strange because my dad bought a Polo from the same francise network and they were brilliant.

It's a shame really that you feel like that, the impression I get is that there are some great finance deals on at the moment and people are queuing up to get a deal and the dealers have lost some of there spark as they know the next customer is just round the corner.

On the other hand I have taken my Focus ST in to the dealers this evening for p/x so there's no going back.... It's going to be a long wait!

Dodgy has a point and so do you.

Not sure if my point was clear or not :)

I was under the impression that Karvy thought production delays were down to poor QC, faulty products etc. When I thought the general understanding was that it it supply chain problems causing the delays many of us are seeing?

I believe its lack of parts causing the issues - won't the first time that manufacturers have grossly underestimated the take-up of certain models/options which throws the whole supply chain out of kilter.

If they estimated (guessed..) that there would be 15% of cars produced having Front radar (for example), yet 30% do (whether standard spec or option), all of a sudden they need twice as many parts.  That isn't going to happen overnight with any supplier - they will have built their facility around x components per year, so y per shift etc - and in most cases its impossible to double it without either adding an extra shift (if there's one to add!) or building a new facility to do it.

Add in possible quality issues (if that's the case) and you're down to a level below the first (incorrect) estimate (guess)..so even worse.

I hadn't realised before that you could like your own posts  :hi:

When I picked mine up, last week, I was told there is now a 6 month waiting list for vRS models. This is due to SUK having sold all their allocation already. They are hoping that Skoda will release a larger allocation soon, this is a quiet period for mainland Europe, so there is hope that SUK will receive more factory slots. SUK aren't really to blame for the popularity of the new model!

Back to the old trick of selling cars they have no allocation of then...  Same happens with most new models - happened when I was waiting for my Scirocco; dealers agreeing to sales based on their expected allocation 2 or 3 months way (place order in July, coming from their September allocation or worse in some cases).

I know it wont make you all feel any better, but this is not new for Skoda,

When i ordered my FL vRS i had exactly the same problem, build dates all over the place, I was originally supposed to collect last week in Nov, I ended up collecting between Xmas & New Year. ( makes it an even more expensive time of year, with service due, Road Tax & this year MOT   )

I sympathise with you all even more, specially as the director that was at the launch admitted that the largest % of octavia vRS sales are here in the UK,

So it begs the question, are the people who sit round the oak table are really so incompetent,  knowing the UK market would be popular for this model & had EXACTLY the same issue with the FL vRS. Why dont they learn from past experience & plan ?    :wall:

Car companies seem to like a backlog of orders although customers don't.  Looks good on the books... :bandit:

No, it mean's they're making cars they can sell, rather than just making cars for the sake of it. If I were them I know which position I'd want to be in.

Exactly - the ones with the "sold" badge on them (rather than "sold to the storage yard/airfield")....

I ordered mine Elegance on the 28th august with park assist and a few other extras and unconfirmed build date was week 43 but this has now been changed to confirmed week 42, does that mean it will defo be built and what sort of time does it take from build date to delivered.

dastrix, same as you. I have been told mine should be built this week and will let you know.

fingers were nearly bleeding after so much tablet pressing, shame for me to never find again. l did this to find my old posts. Anyway well seen.

I very much doubt the delays will be months for orders already placed. I think it'll just be a few weeks.

Some who were told it'd be January are expecting delivery in a few weeks.

Just checked and mine is on the way to the port in Germany, any ideas how long guys?
